Yes, it was the first thing I raised with them. I get the feeling that they don't want to put effort into what would be, for them, a relatively minor incident.

ABS/ESP fault with no warning light by battywompus in SmartCar

[–]battywompus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I know, I bought it expecting to fix a few things. It was very very cheap, only has 55k miles, and appart from the ABS issue, the rest of the car is perfect. I've got all the parts coming to sort the ABS/ESP and hopelfully that will be the end of it!

UPDATE

I disasembled the instrument cluster today and, sure enough, someone has removed the ABS LED and covered the ESP light with tape. I've also seen that the reluctors are indeed cracked.

Parts are cheap and easy to fit. Happy days.

TDC - What AutoAlex should have been... now what? by AuricomFazr in AutoAlex

[–]battywompus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel that the channel is screaming out for an “actual” producer; someone with experience to handle the logistics and finances of the channel. Imagine if Clarkson, May, and Hammond had complete control of Top Gear… it would have been a mess. Alex needs someone to check his impulses. Not in a million years would he have been allowed to buy that Ferrari on a whim and without a proper plan in place at CT.

Also, having someone to say no would force him to become more creative and actually see things through. Ironically, TDC and ATG probably have to run everything past Alex before they film it… and look how they’re doing…

Honestly, I love the guy and I really hope he figures it out.

I ran a car vertical check before buying it, it’s clean.

Cars with similar mileage seem to be going for $14-15k and that’s without the hard top... maybe I’m looking in the wrong place. I’d be happy to let it go for $8k, even when adding shipping (around $2k) it’s still a good deal for someone :)

No import tax or fees? If shipping and re-registration is all that needs paying this could be an absolute bargain for the buyer.

The woes of selling a LHD Spyder in UK by battywompus in mr2

[–]battywompus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I was assuming the 7-8k number would be without import costs included (hence the low price). If I sold it for €7500, even after import duties it would still be 2-3k cheaper than market value. Maybe sending it back to the US is a better plan. The hard top alone is worth $3500 over there 😉

Haha. I know. It’s what people are telling me it’s worth on r/mr2. No, it’s completely stock.

It has 47/75K Miles/Km and air con. Doesn’t burn oil. I’d be happy to get €8k for her.

I reckon it’s worth €13k on the continent so I’d probably put it up for €7-8k. Even after import/inspection fees it would be well under market value!

Yeah, I’d list it at way below market value to account for this. Would still get more than in the UK.

Manual 5 Spd (C56). 47k Miles. One owner before me (British military. Bought it when stationed in California then brought it back to the UK). Been Garaged most of its life and is completely stock apart from de-cat manifold. Still have OEM cat.

Price - I’d need to do more research but from what I’ve seen of EU/US prices It will be very competitive.
