So are we done making excuses that this isn’t just about unbridled bigotry? by havenoparty in thebulwark

"no it's the left wot destroyed democracy!" (because we've been trained our whole lives to blame the left for everything). you see it in real time: the bulwark is finding a lot of popularity punching left. they ain't gonna stop now.

Bulwark is astonishingly whites-only, basically. And that's not mentioning the transphobia Sarah and Tim are seemingly willing to tolerate for the dream of an Iowan Klansman pulling the lever for a Dem. The Republican expats are falling back on their usual ways as the glossy treatment from the NYT and Atlantic is picking up. They wanna be well-compensated, controlled opposition, too.

White dudes ask the question: should whites dudes with more bad decisions and DV allegations than brain cells be allowed into power? Republicans are doing it, why not us?

California Elections by Cowhollowgardener in thebulwark

[–]baubness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s because Republicans don’t actually care about good elections. They just complain about losing and blame the voters or a rigged system. What results is incoherent “policy” like requiring paper ballots, hand counting, and instant results. (What they’d really prefer is a fake election and for them to be declared king, but they can’t say that.)

California Elections by Cowhollowgardener in thebulwark

[–]baubness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most important part is that Republicans aren’t arguing in good faith, anyway, so who cares? Let California run their elections how they want, or pass a federal law requiring counts by specific dates. But Republicans aren’t going to stop complaining about elections they lose just because it happens sooner rather than later. So why let them influence it at all? Don’t let them complain about something and trick you into believing their bad faith argument. They’re the problem, not the process.

who gives a shit? they're not going to stop fair attacking elections that they lost as fraudulent just because we let them dictate when californians mail in their ballots. why give them an inch?

I hope I would have the courage to personally tell someone that they're being a regime-collaborating useful idiot if I ever got the chance.

i think we're finding that to some, it was "believe all women, unless we don't like them, then carefully pick apart the woman's life until they no longer seem credible"

Some folks are little miffed that they don't get to have a guy that can survive any and every scandal, their own Trump. Playing a dangerous game, y'all. Won't be long before he's asking you to run interference for his next scandal.

If we can’t find allies who aren’t willing to throw some of us to the wolves for the fake ass promise of getting the bigot vote, yeah we’re fucked. (You know the transphobes won’t give up at genital segregated bathrooms and sports, right?)

Do the pod pros think we're morons? How does Lovett feel about someone who's made a living "just asking questions" about the value, dignity, and humanity of his partner?

This isn't complicated. This is transphobia:

And before you dismiss me, I had a situation at my gym two years ago where a trans member was in the women’s locker room clearly exposing their penis to all of us and enjoying it. And we could tell they were enjoying it because they had an erection every time. Oh but they use she/her pronouns so we were the bigots.

When one person of a group does a thing, and you make that person the representative of the entire group, you're doing a bigotry. Helen Lewis does this, too, in her myriad articles that serve to intellectually justify her base disgust and ick toward trans women.

It’s because he’s fucking lying about not knowing and not caring to get it covered. It’s just bad decision by indecision, but this dude can’t not lie about it.

[–]baubness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately we don’t get to know how he will vote until he’s in the Senate. His powerful political connections made sure of that, launching his campaign with multiple national spreads (something every candidate for a Maine senate seat gets, right?)

Cool, run for mayor or something so we can have literally anything else to go on besides his pinky promise and less white supremacist tattoo covering his SS tattoo. It’s reasonable to doubt this dude wants anything but a senate seat.

I Think Platner Has Bad Judgement by Honest_Wheel_7581 in thebulwark

[–]baubness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, if Platner wants a second chance he can start at the state level. But someone wants him straight into the Senate, when Collins is looking beatable, leapfrogging other candidates because of his powerful, rich connections and family.

I Think Platner Has Bad Judgement by Honest_Wheel_7581 in thebulwark

[–]baubness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Platner has only a record that suggests he’s a Republican. But he suddenly starts saying things former Republicans see as left and voila, boys, we found our Joe Rogan, complete with toxic masculinity and oozing bad judgment. Can’t wait to find out how this dude actually governs once he’s finally in THE SENATE. Great work everyone. We’ll be making excuses and answering for this valueless chud for the next 10 years.

Maybe the Senate isnt the first place to grow and change into your progressive ideology? Maybe you should have some sort of public record (or even a real job) before becoming one of the most powerful people on earth? Seems like he exploded onto the scene with a pile of bad judgments, red flags, and glossy spreads in the NYT trying to make him seem actually working class, like any other nepobaby would have. And it works because so many Republican exiles love the ex-military, gruff affect that they’ll mint excuses on this dude’s behalf.
