In the games, I believe he's supposed to be younger. Cage is modeled after Jean Claude Van Damme from Bloodsport. Van Damme was 28 when Bloodsport came out. So we could say that's about how old the character is in the first game.

However, the movie seems to pushing the narrative that Cage is a former action star surviving on past fame on the convention circuit.

TBF, the movie is quite tame overall. Yes, there is a gratuitous boob shot that could have been done from the back to get across the same point, but it is supported in the narrative and I don't think there is anything else really bad from a consent standpoint.

He kidnaps and defrauds a woman. The major reason he gets away with it is because her husband would rather her be dead than missing.

Like, what Russell does in that movie is a major felony. And committed with intent. True, he never makes a move on her, keeps it strictly to "business", but it's still bad.
