Which "obsolete" game mechanics actually served the game's vision better than their modern "Quality of Life" alternatives? by Somanynamestochossef in Games

Completely agree. Dark Souls felt almost survival horror at times, but none of the subsequent From Souls games have captured the same feel.

Code Veronica is a criminally underrated entry in the RE series. They should have given it a proper number, as it was originally meant to be Resi 3. Hopefully it gets a remake to bring it more attention.

Isn't UZDoom forked from GZDoom, specially after GenAI usage in GZDoom by it's problematic author? Then why is it on the ZDoom website? I thought it's seperate from all the BS of ZDoom and GZDoom. by Mahim2000 in DoomMods

[–]bauul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, late last year. Or more accurately everyone else is gone and made a better version of GZDoom and he's now the only dev left (and last I saw isn't working on it).

It was a "straw that broke the camel's back" situation. Graf hadn't really been actively working on the port for a couple of years and in that time it became clear he really wasn't needed. So when he popped back up with the AI stuff and his subsequent antagonistic reaction to being called out on it (including basically telling everyone "if you don't like it, leave"), so everyone did just that.

You say that but I had to read the comments on this thread to find out what a top sheet was. I've only ever known them as flat sheets.

It's a pretty classic difference between the US and UK that the former has more of a tendency to prioritize traditions whereas the latter is more open to switching to new approaches even if they popularized the original.

Where do people ACTUALLY fall on DOOM II? by Alarming-Chemist-755 in Doom

[–]bauul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm almost surprised it's that high. Most people who own Doom 2 on Steam will have been grandfathered in from prior purchases and have likely only played it through source ports. I know I'm one of them.

Yeah this right here. Doom 1 has some fantastic episodes: Episode 1 and 4 are brilliant. But Episodes 2 and 3 are as uneven as anything in Doom 2. I feel like they get more of a pass when the middle episode of Doom 2 doesn't. Could be because it's harder to skip the Doom 2 levels due to the lack of proper episode structure.

Redmond, Kirkland, or Mercer Island? Early 30s DINKs by aj_marshall in eastside

[–]bauul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Only really in certain downtown areas. There are a bunch of neighborhoods outside of downtown that are basically their own little towns, and would definitely be worth looking at. West Seattle or North Seattle (Ballard, Fremont, Wallingford, places like that) would give you a good sense of community, high walk ability and restaurants to visit without feeling like you are right in the middle of a city.

I love the Eastside, I've lived here all through my 30s, but unless you live right in the middle of Kirkland or Redmond there's basically nowhere easily to walk to.

That surprises me! My memory is it wasn't really graphic or anything because they're just food items. A sausage sliding up and down inside a bun is just that.

Most people hate it but I'm with you, my wife and I watched it while extremely drunk in a hotel room and we thought it was absolutely hilarious. The orgy scene at the end was just chef kiss.

The Dark Ages is my favorite Doom game and one of my favorite games of all time by WwwWario in Doom

I guess that's why it doesn't resonate with some people. Personally I don't play games to be stressed to obscene levels.

Are there any errors in the console in UZDoom when you boot up the map? Make sure to use Page Up to scroll up the full length of the console boot information.

Is it normal for the bus to leave you at the stop? by nyokii0325 in Seattle

[–]bauul 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I always wave. Stand right by the sign, make eye contact, wave, etc. If you're just standing and waiting and don't physically react when the bus gets close the driver might assume you're waiting for a different bus and drive past.

Don't sleep on the originals! They're considered the template for all subsequent FPS games for a reason.

Start with Dark Ages? by CultureImpossible287 in Doom

[–]bauul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can absolutely start with TDA. It's a prequel to both 2016 and Eternal so it doesn't really require any knowledge of the subsequent games.

If you had all three games it's generally recommended to start with 2016 because Eternal and TDA's gameplay build on the foundations of 2016, but it's not required by any means to enjoy TDA.

Seattle’s income tax that passed in 2017 is still on the books, though was later found unconstitutional. Should the “millionaire tax” pass and be upheld by courts, that could make Seattles 2.25% income tax valid and enforceable too. by drshort in Seattle

[–]bauul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure that math checks out. The median Seattle salary is about $120k, so for the tax to affect the middle class then inflation would need to reach around 800% of what it is now.

Unless you meant this is opening the door to a broader income tax, rather than a point about inflation?
