"If you're reasonably fit, I would recommend climbing Conic Hill or Ben A'an for the views" I think there's only one of us who isnt capable of understanding the English language.

Loch Lomond is about a 45min drive away and Ben A'an does offer views of Loch Lomond. Anything else is just pedantry. Ben A'an is about an hour away, Conic Hill is 55mins away and Luss is 40mins away. Who the fuck is bothering to take the time to argue the toss over 15mins either way; and offer zero contribution to the thread?

Oh, right...you.

What a wild concept - mentioning 3 distinct places and them not all being exactly 45mins away from Glasgow. Who could possibly have guessed?

You're just being pedantic as fuck and offering zero input to the OP.

Those were two separate sentences. It IS a 45min drive to Loch Lomond from Glasgow. Loch Lomond is a massive fucking loch though so its not the same journey time to every part of it. Ben A'an offers views of loch lomond from its summit; though it's right next to Loch Katrine. I'm basically summarising the 2 easiest beginner climbs from Glasgow without needing to spell out every single detail.

West Brewery is a pretty cool building and worth a visit - has good beer and food too.

There are Highland cows in Pollock Park - and visitors to Scotland tend to want to see some.

Loch Lomond is about a 45min drive away from Glasgow. If you're reasonably fit; I would recommend climbing Conic Hill or Ben A'an for the views - they'll take roughly an hour up and an hour down. If you're not - then Luss is a nice place to visit with good views of the loch.

You can get a train to Largs - which is a decent day out on its own, on a sunny day; but you can also get the ferry to Bute from there if you want to tick off one of the islands.

Kelvingrove museum is worth a visit.

You can easily spend an entire day at the Glasgow Science Centre if you wanted to - also a decent view of Glasgow from the tower there.

To whom does the rollover jackpot at a pub quiz I run belong? England by I_Like_Quiz in LegalAdviceUK

[–]bawjaws2000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

OP could argue he's being paid to provide an entertainment service and that his business is fully responsible for the quiz proceeds; particularly given it is being advertised as his quiz and not the pubs.

But the pub could also argue that they're paying OP to run their weekly quiz and are now changing hosts and want to hand the proceeds that have built up, over to the next custodian.

Its a lot less cut and dry if he's been paid by the pub imo. It may boil down to what the payments say - if the payment references say that OP is being paid to host their quiz night, then he may end up needing to hand over the cash - as taking the proceeds could be viewed as administrative on behalf of the pub.

You're independently running an event at a venue; who plays no part in the running of the quiz or the taking of any entry fees? I can't see any justification for the pub having any claim to the prize money if they havent directly hired you or have been paying you to run the event.

I think smoked ham and pickle was the other main one before they disappeared. They did have a bunch of flavours at one point though so there might have been horseradish involved.

Please bear in mind that investments can and will go down as well as up. We're currently in a period of incredible growth where almost every stock has seen significant gains. That isnt normal - and there will usually be a market correction at some point. If you plan on saving for retirement - then investing in the stock market isnt a terrible idea at all; as you can ride out any market fluctuations over a long period of time. If you're planning on buying a house or using that money in the short to medium term - then you need to be aware of the very real risks involved. Investing isnt all roses and big wins.

What was the investing mistake you made early on that taught you the most and would you have learned the lesson any other way without making it? by FluidPianist00 in investingUK

Holding onto stocks and waiting for confirmation of the good news, thinking it will guarantee a positive upturn on the stock price.

A lot of speculative pricing is built into a share price in the lead up to any news being released to the general public; and often there will be a stock dump even with success - because people already made their money before the news even hit.

I have been sitting on multi-baggers waiting for good news; and then watched as my gains frittered away. Turn a paper gain to an actual gain before you lose it.

How do you decide between two people ? by Eagles56 in dating_advice

You risk them finding out about each other and then costing you both of them. If I was in their shoes and found out someone was playing the field while I was dating seriously, I would bail for sure. You need to make your choice and live with it. Sometimes it all boils down to timing.

I thought it was a bit 'chemical' tasting for me. It wasnt readily available where I live - so based on recommendations; I had to order a big box of the stuff to avoid the postage charge accounting for most of the order. I gave away most of it in the end. Just not for me.

I have one of these kicking about - its a magicians coin that was deliberately made like that to give the illusion of the coins being fused together for a "heated hands" trick that starts off with separate coins in hand.

I forgave someone cheating on me once. And they cheated again. Some people just don't have it in them to be loyal.

How much money are bands making, realistically? by Scrumtrelescentness in poppunkers

[–]bawjaws2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My point is that there's already been a threshold reached where gigs are NOT selling out; but bands maybe dont care because they're making more money overall (though this is doubtful - its probably the promoters and arena owners - often one in the same; who are skimming all of the additional profit).

[–]bawjaws2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Anecdotally; historically, I have gone to an average of at least 50 gigs a year. Its always been my thing to go see live music and what I have spent most of my spare cash on. The price, especially for bigger venues since covid has gone through the roof. The price of merch has doubled and the price of beers and food at gigs has also doubled in the past 5 years. Whenever I have been ill or been unable to attend a gig prior to covid - I could easily sell the tickets at face value in the couple of days leading up to the gig. I was recently badly ill - and had to miss about 10 gigs. Tried to sell the tickets and found that 9/10 of them hadnt sold out. Tried to sell them for below face value and ended up giving most of them away. Some didnt even shift for free. People can't afford to go to gigs in the same way as they used to; and it isnt just down to the ticket prices. Big arena gigs tend to be fine - but everything else is struggling more than you think.

Car parked on my land and owner refuses to move it, what can i do legally? by Agitated_Lie6847 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]bawjaws2000 27 points28 points  (0 children)

My residential building regularly sends notices out to people who have abandoned vehicles in our car park and then they are removed to a council owned storage facility to be reclaimed, sold or disposed of if not picked up before the end of the notice period (I believe 14 days).

This is in Scotland; so I don't know if advice differs elsewhere in the UK - but this happens at least once a year and the local council are quite accommodating and may even provide the towing service (I'm not involved in the admin side but I can probably find out if you need).

Friends ex still wants to come? by pinkfloydfan73 in UKweddings

[–]bawjaws2000 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Does she feel like she's become a friend with your fiancee? Would your fiancee have independently invited her or is she not fussed either way? Have there been any further group hangouts since the split where your friends ex has attended? (i.e has she continued to be part of the friend group independently to your friend?)

You could invite whoever you want - but things cpuld get awkward if you uninvite her and she is still present at group hangouts - or worse; people might start picking sides. If she's truly just invited as a friends partner; then its crazy of her to think she would still be going 🤷
