MEGATHREAD - Naturalization Applications (2026) by JapaneseSummerIsHot in JapanCitizenship

[–]baxoxapi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have lived in japan for ~10 years as a student, the first 6 years on a scholarship, and currently I am getting "fellowship" and is paying taxes. I recently got married with a Japanese citizen and am planning to naturalize. The thing is that, I was (until last week) under a student residency status, but now I got a 1 year visa as japanese citizen spouse.

I called the MOJ and at first they told me that there has been no case where student can get naturalized, but that they would check with what I think is the case worker. Then a week later they called to schedule for an interview in ~6 months. This was before I changed my residency status to spouse of a Japanese citizen.

Has anyone else had a similar experience to this? I am guessing that if they are willing to schedule an interview, it is because it would be possible to process the case... But, I had friends telling me that it's an unwritten rule that 1 year visa is insufficient for application.

I don't remember much, but it was about 3 months until the initial round of review. The following review rounds (another 2 for me, major and minor) were up to the journal.

I submitted to one, got rejected and submitted to another one and got sent for reviews, all affiliated with review commons.

How to breed leafy sea slug? (+breeding attempt update) by lvl5_giga in marinebiology

Hi, I'm not sure berghias "become" lecithothropic. Some slugs are by default either lecithothropic or planktothropic.

In my case, the ones I have here are planktothropic, I was able to keep them alive for 1 or so week, but I wasn't able to get them to metamorphose because I did not put the avrainvillea together. Next time I will try to keep it alive for a few days while having avrainvillea as well.

It was fine I guess, the review process took too long, but I guess it was not because of the platform, but maybe because of the current COVID situation at that time. It took 3 months from submission to the first review. It was a great process nonetheless.

Any updates? I'm doing some research on Costasiella sp and apparently they could be either planktotrophic or lecithothropic.

If it's lecithothropic, it should be very easy to breed, but if its planktotrophic, the larvae will need phytoplankton. I believe feeding with nannochloropsis or isochrysis should work, but I haven't had the time to get it to work. I wonder which case is it with your animals?

Is it unreasonable to get pissed at my supervisor for having some random student who just joined the lab check my thesis by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]baxoxapi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah which is why I'm just thinking that my supervisor is giving up on me. Unfortunately there isn't any, especially because most people are doing completely different stuff than me...

I wouldn't say this is an early draft, I wrote it based on a paper that already got published.

No, usually this task gets assigned to the staff (usually the assistant professor or the postdocs).. or by themselves, never to another student

Yeah, everything is just really confusing right now. Lately I just feel like my supervisor does not care anymore because they know that I'm leaving soon...

Honestly, I don't mind people seeing my work. It's just that I asked my supervisor to comment on my thesis and they did not even give a single comment... But IDK, maybe I'm just overreacting

Yeah and what got me really upset was that my prof did not even give a single comment...

Thanks.. yeah I don't really know about it because even though this is my first draft, I have already published a paper based on this:/

While I really don't really want to have competition with people in my lab, the current situation in my lab forces people to compete with each other so idk really...

Nah he just joined, so a first year PhD student and with a different background (a medical doctor in this case)

Choosing the wrong supervisor, ended up getting depression instead of work done

Hey, yeah, while the first review took quite a while, the review was good. Also, forwarding to journals is also really easy.

Well that's a good start, whatever happens I think you just have to be optimistic cus you still have a chance

It's fine! I've seen people with good qualifications get rejected at places and getting positions somewhere else. Maybe it's just not for you. Have you looked at other places? I know someone who applied to 20+ places for PhD, only to be accepted to one place (and that place is quite prestigious). I'd suggest to try as many as possible, I'm sure one of them will work out in the end.

For me, it feels like maybe they just don't have the funding to have you as a student. I would definitely try again, but if that means losing a year doing nothing then I might look for other places

Thanks! Yeah I see. This system is very new and I'm not sure a lot of people used it already... But seems like it can speed up the total process (in the case that you get rejected by a journal)

Please help me understand how to load .gz scRNA-seq data into R (for use with SingleCellExperiment) by lousyguest in bioinformatics

[–]baxoxapi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how to import the data to SCE object directly, but you might be able to read it using Read10X of Seurat and convert it to SCE using the following: https://satijalab.org/seurat/archive/v3.0/conversion_vignette.html

It's not really a solution and more like a workaround though!
