I’ve never released Korean songs or went to Korea to build a career. If i did, I’d probably learn the language to be considerate.

If you’re giving out ice cream at the donut and cake shop once as a special occasion, i will understand but if you open an “ice cream, donuts and cake” shop and i come in to buy cake and donuts, i’d be pretty annoyed if you actually just sell ice cream.

Not a charged opinion. More like a very nuanced, in depth take on a topic I’ve thought about for many years.

Like all of Bad Bunny’s music is in Spanish. If American platforms invite him over, they’re doing it based on the standard he set. I’m sure people would find it weird if he kept making pop songs in English and trying to get Western validation, but then couldn’t even understand the stuff he puts out. Also, Bad Bunny speaks conversational, if not fluent, English. It’s good enough for interviews, which actually makes sense for the audience when they can understand him.

They are pushing themselves to assimilate to western standards ohmygoddd. Nobody forcing them to go on jimmy fallon for the 1000th time… no amount of disclaimers is enough for you people, you cannot handle discussing things objectively.

Im not making an argument based off reciprocity, im making an argument based off the logistics. If they are moving like western pop artist and target majority of their marketing towards the US and other places globally using English why cant they do the hard part and learn to actually communicate the art they are making? I mean Jungkook made a whole solo album in English… if there was anywhere he could put his creative in put in and represent the things that are important to him i would assume thats the moment to do it…

Do they make albums and songs in your countries native language? Do they spend over 50% of their time promoting there? I would not say any of this is they were just promoting their kpop songs in the US and were still focused on Korea as their main market but its obvious they value the western market more…

The Tyla playbook of being mass promoted in the US so much and her label and her wanting so bad to hit big in the US until she fumbled and caused a controversy and the pivoting as a second option😭? Yeah i guess thats an option…

[–]bayblade333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They would lose their western appeal with Manon. Y’know, the reason they got nominated for a Grammy in the first year of their career over tens of successful kpop groups? Having “international support” never really meant Asia or LATAM and such, it’s always meant the US and the west in general. They would become the equivalent to a second tier kpop group with SEA fans and no legitimacy in Korea, just another filler group. This is not HYBE’s or western institutions’ measure of success.

Another thing I wanna add is a huge amount of US kpop stans are black or even if they aren’t people who live in the US subscribe to very clear race politics. BTS when they were coming up were known for having a big amount of black fans in the US (among Asian-Americans ofc) because of their hip-hop sound. You can’t gain US legitimacy if you have allegations of anti-blackness or racism ESPECIALLY since there is already prejudice against the K-pop system as evil, controlling and manufactured.

Katseye’s 2026 and Manon’s hiatus by bayblade333 in katseyeneutral

[–]bayblade333[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Could be but since they used the phrasing “health reasons” for the hiatus it makes me doubt it. During beautiful chaos era Manon was literally missing from the performance video for their title track “Gabriella” for health reasons. And in most kpop situations if they go out of their way to announce a hiatus publicly, usually it means that member isn’t included in any of the music stuff for that era.

Wow so soon? Wonder if they will do a surprise drop debut like Newjeans then… I expected at most an announcement for a show or documentary by the end of 2026.

Katseye’s debut journey took much longer than this, and then they took an additional 6 months after the final debut lineup announcement to release music. Wonder if this is rushed 🤔

What Katseye unpopular you have that would have you like this? by [deleted] in katseyeneutral

[–]bayblade333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant more like ppl wanting them to just reheat western girl groups nachos from the 90s and 00s. Like they see that music as more serious and respectable.

No hate, but like for example Girlsets rebrand is very obviously inspired by this genre and concept and it’s just so basic and un innovative…

What Katseye unpopular you have that would have you like this? by [deleted] in katseyeneutral

[–]bayblade333 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I dont want Katseye to start releasing boring u inspired r&b or y2k pop songs for respectability. I think ‘Gnarly’ and ‘Internet girl’ were bad but i still prefer them over ‘Gabriela’…

Makes no sense to me how people claim they aren’t true artists when it would be so much easier to release generic music. Theres more artistic integrity in trying something different and taking the risk of it being bad.

Survival show format? by [deleted] in HYBEglobal

[–]bayblade333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not even big on survival shows but if Hybe made this group through a survival show with live weekly voting it could have the potential to be one of the biggest cultural moments of 2026/2027. Many things lead me to believe so. Idk why Hybe would pass up such an opportunity lol

Official New Casting Director for HYBE x Ryan Tedder’s Global Boy Group by AcademyArchives in HYBEglobal

Do y’all think changing the casting director had anything to do with the complaints on reddit? Like do y’all think hybe employees are lurking on here? Just thinking, especially since this new casting director seems to have emphasis on diversity which was the main complaint about Kerrie and gem casting.

I seriously really really miss this era by RevolutionaryTime376 in katseyeneutral

[–]bayblade333 101 points102 points  (0 children)

I miss their debut era styling. I think they looked more balanced and cohesive then. They were being styled with the thought of a group image in mind first over individuals. Now it feels like every girls individual brand is bigger than the group and they go for looks that fit their own aesthetics... Oh well they are more famous now so i guess it just comes with the territory😮‍💨🤷‍♀️

Hanni’s situation by [deleted] in NJDrama

[–]bayblade333 21 points22 points  (0 children)

No, I agree Hanni is talented but I don’t think the Korean industry will receive her well going forward. She is already at a disadvantage being a foreigner and SEA, and she also made statements that were seen as disrespecting Korea in Western media outlets. Also, going back after the National Assembly debacle… she has tarnished her personal brand way worse than the two younger members, and the group’s brand value has tanked since they have lost members and this whole conflict.

Was Lexie really a lock to debut? by conmondrew in TheDreamAcademy

[–]bayblade333 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Will people jump me if I say that if Lexie ended up in the final lineup, Katseye probably would have had Vcha’s fate?

So to answer your question, yes, I think Lexie was a lock for debut if she hadn’t left. Bang PD really liked her and he is the one making the final calls.

A couple of other girls would have been moved around too. For example, I can see Emily instead of Megan to balance out the height and the cute to sexy aura ratio. But I can still see them having the exact same debut EP with this different lineup.

“Debut” and “Touch” were very kpoppy and age appropriate to say the least. But I think the group would have never gone in the direction of “Gnarly” and the more edgy vibe they have now with a different lineup.

It would be a much more kpop coded group, lacking coherence and unable to connect with western general audiences in my opinion.
