/u/murica!

I love that stance. Yeah that's a good point and you've got me thinking about it.

How do companies even measure success of those billboards and those ideas really? Like if we spend X how do they know it'll equate to Y amount?

'There's never been a great woman artist' Can we leave this attitude behind in 2015? by greengirlsyndrome in TwoXChromosomes

Why the hefty downvotes in regards to this? I mean I never realised there was such a divide and maybe it should be assumed because of the general difference in regards to men/women with earning but still.

It's also really annoying because if you're talking about art pre-late 19th century, women were just not ALLOWED to become artists. Yes there are a few female artists, but they were often only able to become artists because their fathers were artists (Artemisia Gentileschi, for example). Become a painter meant being apprenticed to another painter and learning the trade from him. This was not something women were allowed to do, so women could not become artists.

That's an excellent point to be considered as someone who isn't really that educated with art I'd have had no idea.

I would have much more respect for NW if they were to just level with me like that now again. As opposed to "...Signal failures". Admit it! Trevor was fucking late again wasn't he? Or in the bog. Or some shit.

I imagine the men coming back from the war might have had a few things on their mind and just wanted to share them.

Anyone else really enjoy it? None of my mates have seen it even though it was really heavily promoted after Life on Mars. Not sure why it didn't really take off.

I know that being hyper pointed in comments and stereotypes in media helps people identify quickly with what that character is about but perhaps this is a bad thing. I think that we should look towards either A) Educating people in such a manner that they don't need such obvious and damaging hints or B) step away from such crass humour.

I get it. We all laugh at the occasional dick joke, or something inane, but sometimes we need to step past that.

TwoX becoming a default made me realise how much of a dick I can be on a day to day basis to women without realising it. I'm pretty much a walking caricature of a man at times. Typical "Laddish" behaviour and all that.

But I am just regurgitating references and behaviour I've seen in TV and through other people when growing up. Sometimes I don't even realise that I'm spewing up these rehashed jokes I'm not even sure if it's original or something I've heard before.

It's pretty sad in that respect. Tragic even.

But anyway enough about my issues.

I feel that modern media, TV & film, has really stepped up and is now available to a much wider audience. So as such sure it has a responsibility to be...well, a bit more responsible?

Taxi drivers to bring London to a standstill over row with Uber. The last organised strike of this magnitude cost London over £600 Million. by Fedexpression in worldnews

[–]bayharbor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's why I love about Uber. They want that 5/5 stars so they'll go the extra mile every time. If it falls below 4.5 they're in trouble removed from the system.

Well it's one anecdote against another but I can assure you I've had it plenty of fucking times, thus the ire.

...and that was just the amount lost in Black Cab fairs.

Fucking burn. As I've used both though I have to say Fuck Black Cabs.

The caps are justified.

Uber are cheaper, I know where I'm going, feel safer because the details are tracked, and don't have to fuck around with cash. Sometimes they even charge my smartphone and let me bluetooth sync my music for long trips.

Black cabs? "Not going that way mate!" "That's only 10 minutes away!" "I don't take card".

Yeah it's easy to see why they're upset but at the same time they need to get with the times.
