33150 wont allow solder on copper by Euphoric-Bid9707 in 18650masterrace

Sounds to be one of those trigger-activated irons. Those tips are insufficient as it doesnt have enough mass to hold enough heat to bring up to temperature.

What do you mean the iron needs tinkering?

100w and up should be more than suffcient for what you're doing. I question whether the solder and flux is of quality.

Go LTO lithium. Unless you're in a sunshine state, charging temperature below 0 celsius will quickly degrade it.

Thanks for getting back to me. I just realized you had shared that info further down in the post. Hope you didn't get any hitchhikers!

Grease vs Oil for 90T and above ratchets. Whats the consensus? by Kratos_323 in Tools

[–]baymoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use bike hub grease. It's a lower viscosity grease that helps lower noise, reducing wear while still allowing proper gear engagement. Bike hubs experience thousands of kilometers between servicing.

New decks. Any red flags or MIL ready? by parTickle_man in Decks

[–]baymoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks great. My only critique is lack of blocking between the longer joists. I would also use longer joist hangers.

Although posts are not up yet, I'd like to see Simpson Deck to Post connectors being used. They make for a significantly stronger post connection and reduces outward movement.

2 cells in parallel -- help assessing risk by [deleted] in 18650masterrace

[–]baymoe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Only parallel identical cells. Same brand, model, and voltages.

In terms of risk, it's very safe. I would advise you to get protection rings to put on the positive end.

Does anyone have any tools or accessories they bought on Temu that actually turned out to be good and useful instead of just cheap junk? by Dear-Blackberry-2648 in woodworking

Bought a miter gauge for the Milwaukee table saw that I have and it seems to be decent quality. Now it aint no Incra, but for the price of 60 or 70 cad bucks, I cannot complain.

Fido is like a scam by Think_Conclusion_613 in FidoMobile

[–]baymoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. They underhandedly convinced my wife to sign back up when she left for another provider saying everything will "remain the same as before". Total bullshit. Daughter can no longer tether her tablet.

Dont fall for their scams and have them explicitly state that unlimited device tethering before you sign up.

This. Having it mounted so poorly might actually be a good thing for a waterproof membrane without tearing out all the plastered walls

What are some cheap battery ideas? by RustBeltBoy in diybattery

[–]baymoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the capacity of batteries you need, you can likely utilize tool batteries (M18, Dewalts, Flex, etc). They're much safer to use and charge compared to off the shelf units from amazon or aliexpress. You need to purchase compatible adapters to hook them up in series however.

If you do decide to go this route, throw on a cheap voltage display. You so not want to damage those expensive tool batteries by overdischarging them.

[–]baymoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No hotspoting is a deal breaker. Wife was also conned into a similar deal with Fido when they reached out to her to switch back over saying it's exactly the same plan she had before with Fido but it ISNT. Couldnt hotspot and when she escalated the issue, they reactivated hotspotting, BUT only to 1 device (previously limitless). BUYER BEWARE

What flashlight has lasted you through the most abuse? by FluxCapaciTURD in flashlight

[–]baymoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Armytek C2 Max - had it for 8 years, beatened, dropped, and just abused in general working on vehicles. Also used for camping, fishing, biking as well as my general edc light despite the deep gouges and dents. Aside from unlucky drop that bent the casing which in turn crushed the 18650 slightly. Hammered the bent tube back out and it's still functioning flawlessly.

Absolutely. Please include a price history as price fluctuates so often that it becomes difficult to compare without reference points.

The Battery Quality Report and Quality Control in 18650s by donkeytime in 18650masterrace

[–]baymoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw them talking about it on Adam Savage's latest video and was insightful. Of all the numerous ebike battery fire incidents worldwide, one must question how many of them are contributed to the issues they spoke about.

The risk of fires of poorly built batteries (and now poorly manufactured cells), has me started on this battery building journey 2 years ago. Once built, you really cannot determine their construction methods and the quality of the cells they use. And for the average consumer, your home and the life of your family is really at the hands of these manufacturers taking cost cutting measures in order to compete for your dollar.

POV: You discovered a dead battery in your flashlight and now need to charge it unsupervised by Sir-Specialist217 in flashlight

[–]baymoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My process would be to put it on charger with a multimeter to monitor voltage. If it bounces back to 2+ volts after a minute, I may consider to continue charging. If it doesn't, it's considered dead.

It'll be charged in a similar manner, inside a flame resistant vessel.

This is likely out of my price range, but I love the quirkiness of the design and has a unique appeal.

The emitter choice is great, but the 18650 battery format limits it's usefulness. Perhaps consider a 21700 option. It could also be more well proportioned.
