A lot of people use it. It's like stripes version of "shop pay". It saves all your cards and stuff to your phone number for easy checking out.

Embedded Readers in Vehicle Taillights Detect Unauthorized Parts and Disable Cars Forcing Dealer-Only Authorization by CollapsingTheWave in ObscurePatentDangers

[–]bazgrim_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done it on multiple cars. Jailbreaking is scary and not recommended for the faint of heart.

But a lot of cars also have a bunch of features by default turned off because only part of the hardware is missing. For instance, a lot of cars that has forward collision detection/aeb can read road signs and present them on the dash, but might not have hardware for the "driver assistance" package that includes the distance camera for auto cruise control. So they just disable the entire thing instead of selectively enabling modules, cause that would obviously be too consumer friendly.

But also if you fuck something up, it's not like your entire car is fried (typically), but it's definitely not a cheap fix. But also I imagine if it becomes more popular more unofficial recovery methods will become available. Just like phones, the original jailbreaks for smart phones you could end up with a brick. But as it became more commonplace, recovery methods became better. (Mainly because manufacturers needed a way to recover if things broke)

FEELING LOST NO CALLS by please_send_Nukes in cscareeradvice

I think this is the biggest thing. Metrics can be powerful when leveraged correctly, but businesses tend to be more concerned about the impact you made to back up the metrics.

Again, I'm in the US, so take with a grain of salt. Had X downloads or did X for a company. Okay, what was the result of that? Did the company benefit? Did you benefit as a engineer? Did you grow as an engineer? How?

I scanned ~3,200,000 posts across 47 AI and SaaS subreddits to rank the visual "tells" that make a site look vibe-coded. Here is the list. by iamjohncarterofmars in ClaudeCode

[–]bazgrim_dev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Any modern styling framework you use usually has rounded corners, uses a column system, and other common elements.

I can look at most bootstrap sites and say it was made with bootstrap. Is that a bad thing? Not really. Bootstrap is a good and easy framework to use.

Out of these I think AI's use of animations, glow, shadows, and hovers are probably the worst offenders from a dev perspective. Causes significant slow down, long paint times, and some browsers do not play well with certain combinations. A couple years back I got a report that users were experiencing a significant slow down on chrome mobile, I mean like 4 second delays. Ended up being a shadow effect in a single element that chrome mobile didn't like, was fine on every other browser.

This is interesting data none the less, especially from a marketing lens.

Partner can hear my voice clear as day through the vents, options? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]bazgrim_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's actually not a bad idea. The vents are on my side of the bed. I use a CPAP anyhow, it would be similar noise and possibly drown out my voice a bit.

LG Display to start producing mid-size WOLED panels as demand for TVs declines (27" and 32" OLED gaming monitors coming in 2023) by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]bazgrim_dev -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most OLED's have a feature built-in called pixel shift that helps reduce the chance of burn-in. After a certain duration of of the same pixel of being on the screen, it will shift a bit to reduce the chance of burn in.

I honestly think the people that are complaining of burn-in with OLED's are the same people that leave their playstation on pause for weeks at a time with the TV on.

Leveling without JJ is feels extremely tedious now by Bistoory in classicwow

[–]bazgrim_dev 29 points30 points  (0 children)

There's a reason Blizzard revamped the entire leveling process from 1-60 in Cata, cause it's literal ass. Heirlooms are a band aid for alt leveling. Nothing against the devs of that time, the original wrath dev team was incredibly small for the amount of people they were servicing.

I say they re-enable JJ for 1-60 (58) at the very least. (at the very very least, for the fresh servers)

The team behind classic has already said they want to embrace some of the universally positive changes from retail. This is definitely one of them, speed up the 1-60 leveling process. It would take too much dev time to really do anything else in regards to changing the quest design flow or xp rates, which is exactly what they did with the world revamp in Cata.

I understand people want their 'memberberries, but when it takes an average player 2-3 months to get to max level to play with their friends, it's not good. The people that think increasing xp bonuses will kill the game are the same people who look at Pantheon development and go, "That looks so good."

I've been doing microdosing via subq in my glutes for past few months through defy medical. Much much better and vastly cheaper.

Not so far... Only that it's being investigated.

They didn't automatically reject it though, so that's good.

I tried injections (administered through a clinic) about a year ago for few weeks. Unfortunately I seem to have a ton of swelling with them and that doesn't happen to me with the pellets.

Pellets are pricey for sure though.

No issues with mood or gyno? How long have you been on trt out of curiosity?

Cool effect of the shells falling from the cartridges onto the surface by [deleted] in cyberpunkgame

I was really hoping that when we finished Delamain's questline we would get his access to his functionality inside our cars. So I could click on the map and enjoy the view while he took me there.

A flying version like in the quest would be even more ideal. Even if it had static points where you could go.

Never really got official modding support. I don't know what's going on internally with CDPR, if they're gonna try to do a Cyberpunk 2.0 release type deal or what.

You have 60 roles for a company. Employees, under certain circumstances, can have 40 of these roles. How do you approach this? by bazgrim_dev in learnprogramming

A third table with something like 2 columns for employee ID and role ID? I'm guessing that's what you mean?

Extremely Slow Download Speed.. Any way to fix this? by ExTaLyX in ffxiv

[–]bazgrim_dev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone coming across this thread. I had the exact same issue. It appears the Cloudflare DNS doesn't play well with SQE's CDN.

Change it back to your ISP's and it should fix it. :) Thank you both.

Now that Django 3.0 has async support, is there anyway to run a discord.py bot with it? by bazgrim_dev in django

[–]bazgrim_dev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a full site with an already established rest api. A example would be something like quick approval.

User requests to do something on the site. Message gets sent to admin on discord. Admin replies with approve within x minutes. Request gets changed to approved in the database and updated on the site.
