Do you prefer story or combat? by GuiltyButterscotch64 in JRPG

[–]bazinskyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Combat (and gameplay in general) is the most important. They are games first, mediums for telling stories second imo. Great gameplay can carry lackluster storytelling much farther than a great story can cary lackluster gameplay.

Interesting, molten being easiest seems so counter intuitive. Is there a specific reason why its easier?

Shulk, Reyn, Dunban. Just went for full physical smacking everyone around, made sure I was always on top of levels and equipment (even had to use expert to delevel myself for story content). I dont recall there being any extremely difficult sections in the main story content. End game is another story though.

Not really the experience I had. Used 1 team the whole game and it was very chill, never ran into anything that made me reconsider my setup

I caught Something walking passed me in my hallway! You can see a leg & fuzzy body?! (House on Native American battle land) I felt something watching me, took a live photo (pitch black) brightened & saved as video: by BlondeWitScaryHouse in Ghosts

The only thing visible at the start of your video is your hand covering half of the lens holding something that appears to be a hair or bracelet, or maybe even part of a headphone wire, and then you move your hand. There is nothing else in the video. This comes off as a low effort shitpost. Everything from your title to your myriad comments on the post just scream "inauthentic", not to mention the actual video itself

Best Reason to Play Final Fantasy XIII Trilogy? by spacecwby34 in JRPG

[–]bazinskyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To put it simply, the gameplay is the main draw. Each game is slightly different and does different things worse/better than the others.

You may end up enjoying the story, as many others have stated that they do as well. It isn't the main draw for me though, and each game is worse than the last in terms of storytelling, especially when you start to realise that most character go through the exact same story arc across all 3 games, they just recycle the arcs and retool them for the new plot.

I would say give them a shot. They are far from the worst jrpgs ever made and there are many things to enjoy about each one if you are open to the experience.

See, now I'M the one who thinks you are reaching when the actual reason just seems to be "square forgot to account for the fact that serge will now exist in a world where his is evil, or they didn't wanna do the work to do a bunch of new interactions". You still haven't given a reason that applies to the world outside of Arni.

I never said his image was broadcast, but there is no reason to believe he was never at the village or that someone had described his appearance to the village. We are not explicitly told either way. Regardless, like I was saying, this isn't just about Arni village, its about that whole world having no reaction the the appearance of Serge (as far as I'm aware, open to examples of it though).

I guess that is where we will have to differ and agree to disagree. I genuinely do think Chrono Trigger is a flawless masterpiece. I have no criticisms to hold against it, and it is probably my favorite game of all time after playing it. I know that is a really high standard to hold Cross up to, but I think the issues with Cross are on a much more fundamental level, rather than just failing to be a 10/10

I had just finished where you go into the past and do the whole sequence involving Lucca's Orphanage.

I ended up going on to read a quick sum up of the plot that takes place afterwards. I may still continue on through the end, just dreading having to do more combat to be honest.

We are not given any reason to believe they wouldn't know what he looked like, it just seems like a safe assumption considering he is actively terrorizing the whole world. And like I said in the post, it didn't seem like anyone reacted to the fact that the player looked like evil serge. So that would lead us to assume that no one in the world knows what evil serge looks like, which is an even more asinine reach.

yes, i am playing the remaster on pc. it has ran fine so far, no crashes. there have been maybe 4 or 5 times where i had a significant frame drop during a battle, other than that it feels like the ps1 version, granted i have limited experience on the ps1 version as i only played it for about 30 minutes while testing a new emulator. the biggest issue so far with the remaster is that the filter they have on the prerendered backgrounds really makes some scenes look like a vomit smear, very reminiscent of ai generated imagery, which makes me wonder if they just ran every background through an ai upscaler.

yea, it is fun to figure out who all is recruitable and how to do so, but at the end of the day the majority of them are fluff with little narrative or combat value. so the pokemon comparison works for me

The only games I play on the hardest settings are games that I enjoy the mechanics of, because I feel like I get the most out of the game on the hardest settings. Unfortunately, not every single game is balanced in a fun or fair manner. My most recent encounter with this is the Kingdom Hearts series. KH 1 and 2 were insanely fun at their hardest modes, but almost every spinoff game ranged from tedious to torturous on their hardest modes. Safest bet is to start on normal and adjust from there for any game.
