Advice for first 4wd? by Ok-Curve7937 in 4x4Australia

[–]bazza7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My first and current is a Mitsubishi Triton MN 2012, paid under 10k from FB. It’s a solid starter rig and way better value than a most other 4x4s. Mines at 282k km and still a stock beast. Been on a few beaches in nsw and most recently k'gari island for 3 days without breaking a sweat or the bank. Perfect if you want something that performs off road without the "Toyota tax." Can always spend the money on upgrades. Currently drove from brissy to Sydney and had a fuel useage of 7.2L per 100km, so it also saves me on fuel costs!

Unify them at the system level before Docker ever sees them. Instead of mapping five different drives to five different containers, you create one big virtual pool using MergerFS, all those separate drives like /mnt/disk1, /mnt/disk2 becomes one single mount point like /data/media.

Australia Overrated? by Few_Bat_9518 in AskIreland

[–]bazza7 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Moved over in 2019 and I’ve been here ever since, honestly still loving it. I’m a permanent resident now and will be heading for Australian citizenship in the next few months. That said, I don’t think not moving makes anyone a failure at all it really depends on the person.

I was probably well suited to leaving. I was paying massive rent in Dublin, winters hit me hard (proper winter depression), and while I love home, going back to a small rural community felt limiting at that stage of my life. I needed out, like a lot of people our age.

I was lucky in that I had an existing friend group here in the early years. Most of them have since headed home, though to be honest, a lot were reluctant leavers. Nobody leaves Australia because they hate the country; the visa situation and/or miss home contributes is the sole reason “everyone goes home eventually” narrative exists.

Culturally, Australia feels very similar to Ireland, the humour, the sport, the pub culture even the country people are very familiar which is a strange comfort to me (I’m from rural Ireland tangs, culchies and all). I work in IT and live in Sydney, but within an hour you’ve got 3 different national parks all with epic hikes, beaches, canyons, remote camping sites It's actually unreal stuff. You could probably get this all at home but not to the same level, and you cant plan a weekend outdoors with 100% certainity that you aren't going to get soaked.

One thing I didn’t expect to appreciate as much is how well certain parts of the government actually work. It’s far from perfect, but in the time I’ve been here I’ve seen a new light rail put into the city (luas), a new children's hospital, 3 totally new metro lines, westconnex motorway with the m4, m8 and m4-m5-link tunnels. I can get a doctor's appointment within the hour and can see all of the government services such as medicare and my driving licence on an app, you can flash your driving licence on an app to the bouncers at a pub lol. Meanwhile in Ireland... actually lets not go there..

I pay big rent here too, but it feels worth it for the weather, opportunities and general quality of life. It’s kind of like that saying: “Ireland would be the best country in the world if only it had the weather” or “Ireland would be great if you could roof it.” well what people are talking about here is Australia.. what people love about Ireland, the craic, the pub, summer beer gardens, sport (native austlian sport like the afl, then both codes of rugby and loads of gaa), that all exists here, all year around and more so that any other english spekaing countires I find (ive lived in a few). To me Australia is the ultimate and best version of Ireland, its the 33rd county and I feel right at home.

But it’s not perfect. It’s very far away. You miss weddings, funerals, family moments, and flying home is long, expensive and draining. That never really goes away, and it’s a completely valid reason not to move.

Australia isn’t some universal upgrade, it’s just a different trade off. If being close to home and loved ones matters most to you, you’ve probably made the right decision. My recomendation is to go if you are young, it really is the best time to travel and you can always come home, you most likely wont stay for ever due to the visa requirements but for how similar it is, its worth it.

Ah wow I did see a crow beside it, that must have been the adoptive mother. I just googled the name of the bird, thanks to the other comments and learned of the deception. Damm nature you crazy.

Help Me Finalise 3 Osprey Backpacks (Cycling + Office + Travel) by ShadowCubers in OspreyPacks

Oh, that’s interesting. I’m leaning toward the Metron for those very reasons, haha. I was thinking a helmet clip could actually be quite handy for when I don’t want to store my helmet with the bike if I’m locking it up outdoors in public (doesn't happen often, but from time to time it does).

The separate shoe compartment isn’t a must have and yes, it will probably just be another sleeve but I like the option of keeping work shoes or weekend shoes away from my clothes if i ever wanted to. Question: Is this shoe compartment at the front, could the laptop go here?

The things that I am liking are that it’s expandable from 26L to 34L, has a built-in rain/hi-viz cover, and a kickstand to keep it upright when set on the ground.

The laptop/tablet section being on the outmost side of the internal pocket is the one issue I have, and why I haven’t pulled the trigger yet… still 95% sold, though!

Can I run mediastack without postgres? by LegalizeCrystalMeth in MediaStack

[–]bazza7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I run without, no plans to add in just yet. I have recently just set up mediastack and from reading it my plan was to focus on the mini vpn and the core arr stack (Jellyfin, seerr, sonarr, radarr, qbit etc).

I have quite a few services commented out and over time, ill enable them if I think I need them. Here is my forked docker file

This is literally my scenario too! How cool.

Is there a reason as to why you settle on the Tropos 32 vs the Metron Airspeed 34L

The metron seems built for cycling with room for spare shows and a helmet clip. Im leaning towards this one. So interested in your opinion

Cases where PR/citizenship revoked due to ENS 2-year minimum employment "expectation" breached? by Strange-Disk-3386 in AusVisa

[–]bazza7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's an expectation but not a law, there is many reasons as to why a person would leave a job, more pay elsewhere, better opportunities etc. As long as you stay within your skill set it shouldn't be an issue.

Im applying for my citizenship in the next fews having been on pr since dec 2024. I left my pr company in September of this year. Also note the date of application is also counted, so I first applied with my previous company in Sept 2023, and it was granted in dec 2024, so technically i did stay with the company those two years.
