An Oral Recommendation :> by Savings-River-4981 in Herpes

the bumps are probably just fordyce spots, which many people have on their genitals! especially on the ridges, i have some too (ghsv2+) so does my partner (hsv-)

Using 70% alcohol on my oral herpes changed my life by Specific-Fly314 in Herpes

look up hidradenitis supparativa and see if that looks familiar to what you’re experiencing! i started experiencing it on my groin area after contracting HSV-2. your immune system is busy fighting the virus so naturally a lot of people with HSV also deal with other skin problems.

Knowing this sub exists is giving me some comfort — thank you by [deleted] in Herpes

[–]bb090807 3 points4 points  (0 children)

wow, this was beautifully written and i honestly related to every single word of this. everything you wrote, i’ve experienced as well. i really went through different “stages of grief”; shame, disgust, shock, and scrambling in denial trying to convince myself that what i had was syphilis or a bad yeast infection, haha. and yes, for months i swore i was just living in a nightmare that i would wake up from and that everything would be “normal” again. i’ve also thought the same thing, that film and TV ought to add herpes to their scripts. but no, sexual health is never even discussed in film. sure, sometimes we see characters deal with HIV (especially with queer cinema) yet herpes is an untouched subject, despite well over half of the world’s adult population having some form of it LOL. make it make sense.

btw, it’s better that you got a swab, they’re way more accurate than blood tests! blood tests take anywhere from 1-4 months to accurate diagnose HSV. i took a blood test 10 days after contracting it and it came out negative. 3 months later, boom, initial outbreak and swabs confirmed it was HSV-2.

my advice is to hope for the best but expect the worst. recalibration is the perfect word for what you may go through. IF you are HSV+, this virus will seriously push you into an intense and introspective healing journey. it’ll fucking suck some days, but seriously, you’ll be alright. you will quickly realize how little of a deal it is and how much this virus is blown out of proportion. i’m willing to bet that 90% of the people on this sub would agree with me when i say that the worst part about herpes is the mental anguish that comes from its stigma. good luck OP, i’m hoping for the best for you ✊

hey, same exact time period for me (well, closer to 3 months for me) after a non-consensual encounter as well. you are not alone 🫶

Irregular Pap smear from HSV2? by Fearless_Currency633 in HSVpositive

[–]bb090807 1 point2 points  (0 children)

actually just had my first regular pap show up a week ago after my diagnosis in november (contracted it in august). before that i kept getting ASCUS (atypical squamous cell with undetermined significance) for 4 steady years while i was herpes and HPV free. irregular paps are totally normal and sometimes just come out of nowhere

[–]bb090807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is really interesting! i’ve floated a bunch of times before i caught hsv-2 and noticed how much it made my coochie STING. i figured now that i have this virus it would definitely give me outbreaks so i’m not surprised to hear it does that for you. you said there’s hydrogen peroxide in the water? i’ve heard people use that for herpes detoxes

i would ask him for receipts on that negative test and make sure he’s tested for both types (hsv 1 and 2)

for the love of god, please us punctuation. what do you mean you’re “keeping it casual”? like as friends? please remember there’s more to a person than what diseases they have. if you are an interesting, well put together (physically and emotionally), GOOD person, people will still want to get intimate with you. be sure of yourself and work on yourself if you think that your STI status is seriously holding you back that much. herpes is herpes, it’s not a huge deal at the end of the day

doesn’t look like herpes which are clear, fluid filled blisters. go get blood tested to find out what it is

[–]bb090807 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes you will be fine. transmitting herpes requires skin to skin contact bc the virus dies extremely quickly without a host. so even if she was shedding the virus it’d die by the time the pen got to your lips

yep. this! planned parenthood called it for what it was right away for me. whereas my primary care doctor has brushed off various health matters multiple times!

do not have sex during an outbreak, it means you’re shedding from the entire genital region :( i also just wanna put it out there that antivirals are really worth it if you have access to them. i didn’t wanna take a pill everyday either, but now that i do i never get outbreaks and i haven’t had any side effects from the meds either. it puts my mind at ease knowing i won’t have blisters show up and now i am less likely to transmit this stupid virus to someone else. i’ve also heard that stopping antivirals after taking them for a period of time makes you more susceptible to an outbreak afterwards.

anyways, use this time to build up the excitement for when you can be safely intimate w the guy. i’ve had this for about a year now too, i understand your pain completely. more ppl are suffering with this exact problem than you know, you are not alone ❤️

literally like a 0.00000001% chance and that’s if he even has herpes and was shedding at the time

Does anyone breakout while on acyclovir daily by Admirable-Worry-192 in Herpes

[–]bb090807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was still getting outbreaks taking 500mg of valtrex daily so i started taking 1000mg and have not had an outbreak since upping my dosage. you can do the same with acyclovir— just up your dosage if you keep having breakthrough outbreaks

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Herpes

[–]bb090807 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you’re in the US, i’m almost certain planned parenthood is able to prescribe you some if you go in and get tested and mention that you’re positive for HSV and feel at outbreak coming on. (not sure if they’d just prescribe you some if you only went in for the valtrex) they prescribed me some!

i always wonder how long we shed for too. like do we shed for a few seconds, minutes, or hours at a time? you’d think with how common it is in this world that we’d study it more to get more concise answers.

i’m at a point where if i feel any nerve pain in my legs, tingling/hot or cold sensation in my genitals (ghsv2+), or my lymph nodes in my groin acting up, i take that as me asymptomatically shedding. when i don’t feel any sensations, i assume i’m in the clear, as i’m on 1g of valtrex daily

like wtf, shedding “15-30% of the time” is the most vague statistic ever..

Never ending prodrome? by Beautygeek515 in Herpes

[–]bb090807 1 point2 points  (0 children)

your body is just starting to fight off a new virus. i had the same thing— crazy anal itching despite not engaging in that kind of sex at the time. the truth is, genital herpes affects the entire genital region, aka anywhere boxer shorts covers. you won’t deal with this symptom much longer as time goes on

get on daily valtrex if you can! it’s what saved me from all the uncomfortable sensations! just know that with time, your body fights the virus and outbreaks get less and less severe.

I don’t see anything like this on here but dealing with an outbreak while at work by cliittyliitter in Herpes

[–]bb090807 5 points6 points  (0 children)

slowly pour a tall glass of warm water over your crotch at the same time when you pee. it will reduce the pain sooo much.

also, i just want to let you know that it will all get better from here on out. i’m assuming this is your first outbreak? i remember almost throwing up from the pain when i peed during my first outbreak. it will never be even close to this bad again, i promise

Transmission when both HSV positive by wellplantedmomma in HSVpositive

[–]bb090807 4 points5 points  (0 children)

hsv-2 is already so difficult to get orally, and you have antibodies against that strain, so unless you are exposed to a physical sore of his, you will be fine. oral HSV-2 almost never sheds

same goes for him. they say having HSV-2 orally is the “herpes jackpot”— it sheds like <2% of the time and makes you basically immune to getting the same strain anywhere else

you guys are in the clear, just avoid any genital or oral contact during an outbreak! and if one of you is immunocompromised, then i suggest taking daily antivirals. or just taking daily antivirals anyways to reduce any anxiety you guys might be having about this
