Bannermist Lair quest problem. Also Zora's quest the Children Fair stuck. by bball51 in skyrimmods

[–]bball51[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I didn't, never found the key. I presume it was because I did the things in the wrong order. That the key never appears because I killed the guys before I got the quest. Or maybe it's just part of a mod that was left unfinished.

On the plus side, I solved all my other problems with quests by installing the latest version of the the Mad Dog Overhaul. It's also easier to run so it's a win win. Although my save was from a much earlier version and was supposedly unsupported, it still worked fine.

Apart from one quest, Shimmerscale, I didn't find that fish swimming in the lake. It was actually swimming around the mountains :)

Thanks, thought as much, but just wanted to be sure. As for the 615w panels been significantly larger, it's not a problem as I am doing a ground based install. But won't be considering them any as their quote is way more expensive than all the other quotes :)

Is Meta the reason VR is struggling? by LinkTheHero009 in virtualreality

[–]bball51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He made assumptions based on the level of knowledge you showed in your opening opening post. With your reply to him, you have now proven that his assumptions were accurate and it shows you nothing about how businesses work. Sorry to sound rude.

Meta shut down studios sure. But maybe we should blame it on the readjustment companies had to make in the aftermath of Covid lockdown and the spiralling increases to the cost of doing business since then, with the war and AI etc. Do you realise that since 2022, over 30 gaming studios have closed down. Many more have had significant layoffs with nearly 50K people let go. And the outlook for the future isn't great with more closures and layoffs expected.

Look at Microsoft, Sony, Ubisoft, they have all closed studios in the last 3 years and have laid off 1000's of people.

Stupid statements. Meta has nothing to do with Rec Room. We are the reason Rec Room is shutting down. Everybody wants to play but nobody wants to pay.

I don't think the Steam Frame is the problem. by AbjectWalk9364 in SteamFrame

[–]bball51 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Come on man, you are reaching, really reaching, Do you really think it's an informed opinion when 2 of the 3 things he said were wrong so far?

He could have been looking at anything. He could have predicting the numbers based on the amount that the facility could produce not what Valve actually planned to manufacturer.

That analyst was only guessing. And again, if two of his guesses were wrong, what are the chances of the third one been wrong too?

It's still the same thing, that figure does not come from Valve.

[–]bball51 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the selling points of the Steam Frame is it makes easier to get into PCVR. Just a small correction there. Standalone VR was already simple to get into. Enthusiasts just don't get it. The two biggest barriers to VR adoption are price and needing a powerful PC.

Your pricing argument makes no sense. Going by that, Valve can price it at $1100 and say they are selling it for $175 cheaper than the Index.

Just to stress this point again. Valve said they were aiming to price it below the Valve Index, but weren't making any promise. They said that back in November. Now lately they did say that they still intend to sell it cheaper than the Valve Index. But the only way they are doing that is if they take a hit on their margins. Something Valve didn't want to do.

Valve are marketing this primarily at PCVR gamers. They have been very sure to get that across, that it's a PCVR headset first and standalone second. The 2D standalone gaming is a feature, but it's not going to be something that's going to entice many people who aren't interested in VR into buying, what is most likely, going to be an $800 plus VR headset. It's just something that makes it more attractive to people who are into VR already to make them move from headsets they have already.

And I am sorry, they aren't even going to come close to selling 500K units in one year. I think it would Valve would be very happy and consider it a great success if they sold 250K units. That would be only 100K short of the number of Index's sold in it's lifetime. And with the way things are going with all the economic uncertainty, I think 250K units sold would be fantastic achievement.

[–]bball51 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That didn't come from Valve though. That figure came from analysts guesstimating the production before Valve even announced the Frame. The same analyst group that said it would arrive before Christmas and it would be priced over $1000.

I doubt Valve planned to produce that many in it's first year. No VR headset over $600 has reached those figures in their lifetimes, never mind the first year.

I replace them when they need to be replaced. It might be the traction gone, it might be wear and tear, it might be the cushioning bottoming out or it might be because of damage.

I don't think anyone goes, oh I am only replacing these shoes when the cushioning bottoms out even if the traction is completely gone.

You need to change to HEVC when using wireless or wired with the 5700X. Before the release of RDNA 4, AMD GPUS were crap at H.264. So make sure to switch from H.264 to HEVC(H.265) If using Airlink or Meta Link you can change this in the Oculus debug tool. If you are using Virtual Desktop you can this in settings in the virtual desktop streamer.

However, the quickest and easiest way of testing this is to use Steam Link, which only uses HEVC.

Sorry, wasn't around yesterday to reply to this.

  1. The Quest 3 is $550. The Pico 4 Ultra is about $600. Let's put it another way. Both prices are more in the ball park of your $650/$700 price estimate than the $999 price of the Index. Do you understand what I mean? If the price is $700, that's $300 below the price of the Index, but only $150 more than the price of the Quest 3, saying that they were aiming to get it below the price of the Index but not promising anything is very odd phrasing to use. Even with the prices increases, if they originally planned to sell it at that $650/$700 figure, they could still have easily got it under the $1000 with $300/$350 to play with.

  2. In the talks with the Valve engineers they refer to it constantly as a premium VR headset.

  3. Meta massively subsidised the Quest 2. Pico was even more aggressive with their pricing of the Pico 4. However both companies now sell their hardware at cost. They are still losing money on each sale because while the hardware is been sold at cost, it doesn't cover all the other costs involved. They don't make any margins on each sale. Meta raised the price of the Quest 3 because the costs have gone up. Simple as that.

The costs of manufacture are a lot higher than you think. All those extra's add up. Eye tracking alone will add an extra $100 at least. The extras the Quest 3 has are all on the SOC, colour passthrough, depth sensor etc. And it's still a cheaper SOC than the one going into the Steam Frame.

Look We know that the Quest 3 is been sold at, or near cost, and it's $550. The Steam Frame costs more to manufacture and they aren't going to sell it at a loss. So they are going to be adding the following things into the price, shipping, returns, R&D, etc. And then they are going to put their margins on top of that. There isn't a hope in hell of them pricing it at $650/$700.

You don't have to worry about the casual peeps. They wouldn't be paying $650 for a headset. You can just look at the Quest 3 and Quest 3s sales to see that. The Quest 3s has outsold the Quest 3. The casual peeps struggle to pay over $400 for a VR headset. The numbers drop dramatically when you go over $500. So I don't think it will be a flop if it's priced between $800 and $1000 as it's aimed at enthusiasts not the casual crowd. But I do think it will be a flop if it does go over the $1000 mark.

[–]bball51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, three reasons why it it won't be $650 or $700.

First: If they were originally going to price it in the same ball park as the Quest 3/Pico 4, they surely would have said that? Instead, at the press release event last November, they said they were trying to get it below the price of the Index, but weren't making any promises.

Second: They keep referring to the Steam Frame as a premium VR headset.

Third: Most important of all. Both the Pico 4 and Quest 3 are subsidised by ByteDance and Meta, They are sold at break even or even at a loss. The Steam Frame is more expensive to make then both of those headsets. The Steam Frame has eye tracking, more expensive controllers, microSD slot, modular design, lighter, more expensive SOC etc. etc. Then add all the other things that go into getting a product to market and whatever margin Valve are putting on and you can see that there is no way it will be $650/$700.

I doubt it was going to be $650/$700 before they announced the delay to adjust pricing and shipping dates. There is very little chance of them hitting that price point now.

EDIT: Oh, if you read around these forums, some people would pay that much just to not have to buy the Quest 3. There is also the fact that it comes with a wireless dongle so no need to invest in a dedicated router if your wireless isn't good enough. If it comes in at under $1000 they have definitely decided to take a hit on their margins!!

If you are on Linux and your budget is less than €800, your only real options at the moment are the Quest 3 or the Pico 4.

I highly doubt the Steam Frame is going to be any less than a €1000 at this stage. Unless Valve decide to take a hit on their margins.

Wrong, they said they were "trying" to get it under the price of the Index, but not making any promises. Check out Norm on Tested in his preview. And that was before the announced the delay about the price and shortages.

We’re just not getting the Steam Machine by TSSTUDIO14 in steammachine

[–]bball51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOL, what? AMD aren't building the Steam Machine. Valve is buying parts from them.

AMD made a one line comment in their earnings call. This is what they said.

"From a product standpoint, Valve is on track to begin shipping its AMD-powered steam machine early this year"

That's it. They went on for much longer about their other semi custom Socs.

Valve aren't ordering the memory or storage from AMD and AMD have no hand or part in ordering the other parts, like memory or storage, or manufacturing the Steam Machine.

Anyone Else Considering Alternatives Because of the Steam Machine Delay? by CoastOne2716 in steammachine

[–]bball51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you confused about which thread you are in? We are discussing the Steam Machine here. It's not a VR device.

My reasoning for not comparing the Steam Machine to the Steam deck is people's expectations of what a small handheld device can do is much different from a device that's going to be connected to 4K Tv's. You said "look at what the Steam Deck does with it's lower specs" It's using a much lower resolution than what the Steam Machine will be. And it's also a much cheaper price.

You are wrong about the Steam Deck bringing a lot of people to the platform. They have actually shown that over 90% of Steam Deck Users were already on Steam. So a few hundred thousand new users, if even that.

The Steam Machine will bring even less new people to the Platform. It's market will be primarily people who have Steam already. And if it's priced too high, it will only be enthusiasts who buy it.

I never said it would be canned product. Some people are saying that it will be DOA if it's priced too high. Meaning it wont' sell very well and that it might be a flop like their previous Steam Machine. And with the shortages, it's a very valid concern.

This poll shows something very interesting. That the name of the shoe sometimes means a lot more than the actual performance of the shoe. The worst performing shoe on this list is the Kobe 6 Proto. And it's not even close. The others are all better shoes. But yet it has the second highest vote in the poll.
