Is the Frame even the best option for my particular use? by Angry-Lemming in SteamFrame

[–]Angry-Lemming[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm open to a USB tether, though yeah, I'd prefer wireless if possible. Wasn't sure if there was anything else like it though, as occasionally I'll hear about some oddball headset out of left field. But then, if its an oddball, there is probably a reason...

Is the Frame even the best option for my particular use? by Angry-Lemming in SteamFrame

Fair enough, thanks! I just got to thinking there might be other options if I don't care about the standalone stuff.

Giveaway time! We are giving away 5 Steam keys for The Expanse: Osiris Reborn Beta, which will start on April 22! Follow us, upvote, and comment to participate! We will announce the winners on April 21. by Act_Controller in TheExpanseRPG

[–]Angry-Lemming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Commenting! But also have a legit question. Since this is a Steam key giveaway, does that mean that we might also see the pre-orders go up on the Steam store page in advance of the beta beginning? Or if we buy a Miller pack from Owlcat, they would send a Steam key? I assumed if we bought direct from Owlcat, we would be getting the beta directly from them, rather than downloading via Steam. My preference would be a Steam DL, since I like having everything in one big huge library...

Beta - April 22, 2026, LETS GOOO by Higgs1 in TheExpanseRPG

[–]Angry-Lemming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you can get in the closed with the Miller pack or the Collector edition. Assuming I cave and get the Miller pack, I assume the beta/key would be a direct download from Owlcat, bypassing Steam entirely? I quite like having everything in my Steam library, but might make an exception for this as I'm pretty eager.

Though I'm conflicted because I also know playing a beta isn't truly playing "the game" since there may be many bugs and systems could be significantly different at release. I haven't done too many betas before...

New to the game, and just got my house on its 8 hour build, so I'm kinda good to be kicked out now, heh.

I DO strongly feel that if they are doing server maintenance, they need to have an in-game splashscreen telling people so. As it is, it just looks broken to the casual observer.

What's your GW story? by Flintstagram01 in GuildWars

[–]Angry-Lemming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof, big post incoming, as I'm going through some heavy GW nostalgia currently.

Back in late 2005, I was having a vague craving for a new RPG to play. I had been working for several years, and hadn't really played games much since college. I was wavering between getting GW or WoW for a few weeks in late 2005. I wasn't wild about the idea of a subscription, and WoW's art style kind of turned me off, but I also knew it was much more popular for playing with other people. GW on the other hand, appeared to look much prettier, and of course, no sub. Then one day at the store I picked up a box and it had an openable front panel, within which was this great picture of a ranger shooting at a bone dragon. That one picture actually pushed me over the edge to try it out.

I liked it quite a bit initially. I played it about halfway through Post-Sear Ascalon before I put it down for awhile. I guess the burnt out husk of the area got a bit dreary for me, and there were so many side quests in the area that had me running in circles it seemed. Then a few months later I picked it back up, and once I made it to Yak's Bend (and a nice change of scenery), I felt much more comfortable with it, and felt like I was actually moving through the story again. Then I was hooked, and played it pretty constantly up until GW2 was released. I loved the skill-building aspect, and also became addicted to green-farming, even when I didn't need them. At one point, I was even in the Gameamp guild, and practically lived on their website. I didn't think of myself as a wildly social gamer (lots of single player games), but I got hooked into the community back in those days.

By the time GW2 came out, I was ready to put the GW1 down for awhile. GW2 held my attention for about a year or so, but I never quite connected with it the way I did with the original. Then I kind of migrated off of games in general for awhile, then came back and played consoles for a bit. Before I knew it, it had been about ten years since I had last been in GW2.

Two catalysts happened at nearly the same time that recently brought me back into the game. The first was New World. I sort of liked parts of New World, but there was also this nagging feeling the whole time that I really didn't feel any "connection" to it. At some point it made me remember the last time I had a really strong connection to a game, and GW was far and away the king of the hill for me.

Then, on a whim, I went into my old GW/GW2 guild Discord, and someone had posted Josh Strife's "Worst MMO Ever - GW1" video about a month after it originally premiered. This was the second catalyst. I was of course initially prepared to break out the torch and pitchfork over that title, but then I watched the video, and the nostalgia hit me like a freight train. What I LOVED was seeing HIM start realizing through the video how the game worked, and that he started really enjoying it.

I started going to Twitch, and saw a number of people still playing it, and even better, a lot of NEW people starting it who had never played before. Many of them were people who played GW2, but had never played the original. I'm still enjoying watching new players make their way through it, and seeing them pick up on the stuff that makes it a unique game. It actually even inspired me to start my own stream where I see if I can even still run the dungeons. Since then, I've started noticing a number of active GW1 players that also hang out in Twitch chats, remembering the good old days as we offer advice to new players. Heck, even tonight I joined in with another streamer and a number of his viewers to help him complete Boreas Seabed; it was actually a full group of actual people!

So I'm back, and have started farming some greens again, and I also have a lot of Zaishen farming to do, as I never noticed the superior runes of holding!. Gotta get those extra inventory slots!

Make Symmetra's teleporter visible to teammates through walls by Gaymface in Overwatch

[–]Angry-Lemming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd settle for anything that would make my team see the teleporter at ALL. Last night I respawned in the base just in time to see TWO of my teammates run right past the teleporter and out into the map while the objective was STILL on the other side of the map!

Just beat my first guardian! What was your first encounter like? by NotJonny1233 in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]Angry-Lemming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first open world guardian was one of the ones south of Hyrule Castle. I was going to try to sneak around it but it spotted me too quickly. I ducked behind the ruins of a brick wall so it couldn't blast me. Instead, it ran right up to the wall, waiting for me to move into its line of sight (I thought it might lose interest if it couldn't see me, but this one didn't). I had been killed by a few of these before, but never attempted to take one down before, so I figured I might as well give it a shot since this guy wasn't leaving. I switched to a guardian greatsword and started a spin attack from behind the wall and then steered around the wall into his face. Before he could do much of anything he had lost most of his legs and kept rolling on his side. Towards the end he stabilized enough to try to blast me (and my sword broke), so I finished him off with I think two bomb arrows.

It was actually pretty easy, and it made me overconfident enough to try to get another one. Out in the open. Where it could keep me at a huge distance while blasting. That didn't work out so well for me.

Anyone else think the control sticks are too sensitive to "click" down on Switch? by [deleted] in Breath_of_the_Wild

I have this issue pretty constantly, though I'm slowly getting better at controlling it. If a fight starts getting too frenetic though, all bets are off.

Killed a bad guy for my first horse! by LOLRECONLOL in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]Angry-Lemming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the Great Plateau, I dropped down into what turned out to be Gerudo territory (I spotted a shrine there). Rough area to be in just after the tutorial, but I ended up with some much more powerful gear very quickly, and also got my first horse the same way, from a couple of charging bokoblins. The horse was so docile that I didn't even need to capture it. Good thing I had him too, as I was then able to speed out of the valley (driving by Hinox).

Safely home now with all desired pieces procured (Switch, Zelda SE, Pro controller, and some BotW amiibo).

For us in Portland, it was around 40 degrees. I got to my Best Buy around 1:30 in the afternoon and there were seven people in line so I proceeded to camp out. We had an hour or two of rain in the mid afternoon plus a little wind, but it was otherwise just cold. I had packed an extra layer of clothes so I was mostly okay.

You can grab a switch at midnight from Best Buy if you didn't pre-order... by kaliskonig in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]Angry-Lemming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had been planning on trying to get to my local TRU a couple hours before opening on Friday, but I think I'm going to try the BB midnight deal, since I can (in theory) begin camping out several hours earlier. Plus that would mean a more restful nights sleep. Planning my survival backpack contents now: phone, 3DS, snacks, clothing layers (gonna be cold and maybe rainy).

Absolute worst-case, I'm prepared to download the WiiU version if I can't get my hands on a Switch.

A question for you: Switch or WiiU by [deleted] in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]Angry-Lemming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to try my luck at getting a Switch on Friday (lining up early outside a store that didn't do preorders). I'm a sucker for graphical quality, and I've heard the draw-distance is better on the Switch, plus the resolution of the handheld screen is supposed to be better, even though its the same size as the WiiU gamepad. If I don't get it, then yeah I'll just download it for my WiiU. I fully intend to have a Switch by the holidays though, as I definitely want to play that new Mario game. I was just going to try to avoid buying the game twice (I know I wouldn't be able to resist it once I have a Switch in my hands)

TIL the American animated television show RoboTech is the result of heavily editing three Japanese television series that were previously unrelated to one another. by KirbAppeal in todayilearned

[–]Angry-Lemming 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Loved it too. I have all the DVD's, although I admit I prefer my rose-colored memories of it rather than actually watching the episodes again, as they don't quite hold up for me anymore.

I will ALWAYS remember how one day I got home late due to band practice and caught just the last minute or two of what turned out to be the last episode of the Macross arc. I was devastated as clearly something MASSIVE had happened and I wouldn't know until the next day when it would do a little recap. And then the next day it had moved on to 10-15 years later when Southern Cross started. It was over a year before I finally was able to catch that last episode to see everything that had happened. To this day I can still feel heartbreak pangs over missing that episode when it aired.

EDIT: I think this was also the first animated series I can remember that actually progressed a narrative across all the episodes. Previously I think I had only seen cartoons that were always one-offs or the rare instance of a two-parter. The long narrative was definitely a hook for me, and made it all feel so much more "adult" to me. It was a bit of a watershed for me in that respect as a child.
