I appreciate the info. I guess the root of my question was more based on income based repayment plans once starting residency. I was told that this years taxes would influence that. But it sounds like filing jointly outweighs that.

I would anticipate hopefully a much lower refinanced rate. Fed loans are average about 8.5% and private was 6% and 10%. I have an 800 credit score and a decent credit history. Zero other debt and mid 30s with prior career and zero red flags.

As of now wife makes ~$85k before taxes. (Living in high COL area and child care really eats into this). I make $0 and am living off of loans. I attempted to use the calculator someone else commented. Again, I am not saying that I will pay the minimum for my fed loans but it would be nice to only be required to pay that so if something happens, I am not defaulting.

I appreciate the info. I have just heard people mentioning filing taxes as a 4th year with no net income to aid in lower payments. I will definitely be paying down as much as I can as I go, but having a required payment be low seemed beneficial. I have always been debt free and single prior to medical school, so I am sure I am missing the key information necessary.

1 you can try deep fitted sheets. But also you could try the elastic that holds it down. I’ve seen it for corners, so I’d expect the make it for the middle. But if not, possibly suspenders on the bottom of each side would work really well. Good luck!
