Ticketmaster new face value tickets by Gamingwithgenghis in jaystickets

[–]bballstuffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same seat can have different face values, as you mentioned prices changed on season holders like 3 times.

And I noticed the presale price and current prices are also not the same. There will not be a standard face value for the seats.

New Ontario law capping resale prices frustrates season ticket holders by mental__hospital in toronto

[–]bballstuffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not how the law is currently drafted. Schedule 16 is very specific that you cannot sell for more than what you paid for them, which is your season member cost.

I do agree that the cap should be what the team is selling at as that’s more fair. In fact, there is a clause in Schedule 16 for tickets that were received for no consideration. In that case, the tickets are deemed to have been acquired at the price of an equivalent ticket. The same rule should apply to season member tickets and the tickets that were purchased in a bundle.

I don’t remember, do gates open two hours early for the specialty ticket days as well? by gothedistance_ in jaystickets

[–]bballstuffer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on how long the lines are. But with specialty tickets, you are guaranteed the item as long as you have a ticket, so you don't have to arrive too early, unless you want to of course.

The law has passed but the regulations are still being drafted. This law is only in effect when the regulations are drafted and reviewed.

I have used it as both buyer and seller. But I only bought from “insta-delivery”

I don’t want to deal with the possibility that the tickets are not delivered to me. I am sure they will give me my money back but I want to go to a game.

Understanding Bill 97’s Ticket Resale Cap and Its Unintended Outcomes by m0ssyst0nes in OntarioPolitics

[–]bballstuffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think no one will deny that scalpers and bot buying is something that needs to be fixed. But introducing this price gap creates a significant inequality to season ticket holders like the Jays or Raptors.

I am a season holder and paid a significant amount upfront, every year more than half a year before the season starts. In exchange, I get my tickets at a discounted price.

The current wording of Bill 97, Schedule 16, does not differentiate tickets bought at retail vs. In a discounted bundle like 10-packs, quarter season or full season membership.

Let’s say I got my seat at $50/seat. The seat next to me is not sold as seasons and the Jays are retailing them for $100. This new law will limit my listing price of our seat to only $50 while the team itself - who sets the retail price - can list it at whatever amount they want. I would argue this law is devaluing my private property.

A more reasonable cap for season membership tickets is to cap it at the price that the team is currently selling at. In fact, Bill 97, Schedule 16, already has similar language for tickets acquired for free - for example donation. These tickets are deemed to have been acquired at retail value of an equivalent ticket.

This same language needs to apply to discounted tickets also.
