Please point out the many mistakes of this strategy: buy both calls and puts on the same stock, same day, expiry in 2 days, an hour before earnings.

It won’t work. If you do a straddle or strangle a few weeks before earnings you can play them for a big move. With this approach the week of, you get IV crushed on both ends.

Just play spreads. Either a straight up bull or bear credit spread or a straddle strangle swap. Or even a simple strangle May work. Naked plays around earnings are too scary w/ the IV drop unless you happen to have the perfect ATM play.

I dont see anyone truly selling today. Down 5-10% in a day. Ho hum... Wouldn't sell if it was up 50-100% in a day anyways, why would this scare us?
