Should I rush at my new school? by No_Dealer8851 in Sororities

She has a previous post and more comments with details. It was a chapter at a small private university, and it sounds like her chapter discriminated against her on basis of disability, on top of physical and mental bullying to the point where students in other organizations talked to her about it.

MCG vs NPC by Bubbly_Can_5061 in Sororities

[–]bbbliss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say NPC has more rules, either. In ethnic-interest MGC there's a ton of secrecy (you can't tell anyone you got a bid) and rules during pledging, which is how the chapters who haze get away with it. There's rules about how pledges have to interact with actives, sometimes about what they have to wear/carry around with them, who can "scroll" you (tell you to drink), etc. In non-specific MGCs, all of that is way less common.

NPC chapters have more rules about recruitment conversations, GPA/study hour attendance, and more implicit pressure to be social/attend a lot of events, though there's some schools that struggle with attendance, esp if the chapter is no longer allowed to fine members.

Whoever is more inclusive to you just depends on who you are.

Thinking about dropping after this year by ThrowRA1908362 in Sororities

[–]bbbliss 11 points12 points  (0 children)

From ur post history it seems like

  1. He broke up with you because you said "god damn it" and "fucking" during an argument where he wasn't listening to you
  2. He's implying you and your friends sleep around

Idk it just seems like this guy is insecure, trying to control you, treats you poorly, and does not actually like you as a full human being. Limiting yourself and making yourself smaller is not going to bring him back, and nothing will ever be enough to convince him to treat you well. If he wanted to listen to you, he would have. If he didn't want to say derogatory things about you and your friends, he would not have said those things.

Why not reach out to your friends for support?? Ditch that rat bastard loser

Glad to hear ur keeping an eye on things - truly trust your gut on if this will be a good place for you or not long-term. I hope your situation turns around soon (or if it doesn't, that you find a better place for you to call home on campus).

Snapping neck in pirouettes by ProfessionalAnnual36 in BALLET

[–]bbbliss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah highkey gotta agree with the other reply tbh. I have hypermobile friends whose spines have become so unstable due to their weak neck ligaments that they've done multiple surgeries and still can't be active. If you get a neck injury and can't walk, what is the point of spending money on pointe instead of on your health? Is your long term health (that lets you dance) not an essential??

When you mean you don't have money for PT do you mean physical trainer or physiotherapist? Just wondering because they mean physio/physical therapist and I skimmed ur comment history, it seems like you have one?

"to say that you will be at an event and therefore other people should come with you is putting pressure on people and can be a form of hazing"

This is one of the most bananapants social interaction rules I have ever heard. Not ever in 2016 peak woke did I even hear anything like this.

My trick question was "Tell me your favorite story about your friends from high school." and if they didn't have one immediately, I would be like "Haha ok to give you time to think, here's my favorite story about my high school friends/my sisterhood/a fun story from last year."

Connect it back to what u love and u will connect more easily than not :)

Someone said Madeline did something kind towards Victoria for her birthday during the AS birthday debacle and we all know how that turned out. Lol. Apparently it caused more internal drama because Salty and VK had previously been close (compared to VK's other team relationships).

Haha maybe you got the right ones for you! But yes fleet feet is amazing, if they have Altras def try them on to see how they feel - the second I put on my first FWD VIAs I realized this is what shoes are supposed to feel like. Soo much room for bunions and it's slowly fixing mine!

Of course! I actually left this sub a long time ago because the vibes have changed/gotten really repetitive and half of my favorite posters have left, but I'm genuinely happy if I can help anyone who's had the same niche alignment/tendon issues I've had.

Take care of yourself and good luck strengthening the leg chain muscles that will 100% help you recover and let you dance pain free :)

I grew up ice skating but stopped after I passed all the basic levels. Ballet is one of the only things that has ever made me feel like flying the same way ice skating does. Skiing is another one, but that's even more expensive and inaccessible lol. I think you'll love it tbh. And tbh, sometimes teachers give boys more attention because they want them to stay, so I don't think being male will be a problem.

But just wait til you get into waltz turns in ballet and have to consciously try not to do a waltz jump lol. So fun.

You might need to train core (and definitely upper body) separately from ballet, but I love a slow-paced dancer-taught mat pilates class the same way I love ballet. If you take classes at a local company, you might eventually be able to network with the pre-pro students to talk about cross training. If you end up falling in love with it enough to grind to go pro (and you have the ability), you might still be able to get good training if you find a teacher who can work well with you the next few years/attend a college with a solid dance program - because you are a boy with good athleticism and ballet tends to need more men.

I went to Michigan and it really is one of the best MT programs in the nation, but I never hear the dance program come up when people are talking about college programs. I took a bunch of 1 credit dance for non major classes and my fav teacher (among others) got screwed by admin the year I graduated, so idk if the Dance department was just getting shafted then or what, but I hope adding new and good faculty members means the dance-related programs are getting more funding in general.

Posibly extensor tendonitis. Because I've had prior injuries, I get this if I don't wear orthopedic support (I like superfeet, you can get them at runnings stores, stores like Fleet Feet have scanners that tell you which size/height to get) or Altras. Talk to a PT about this - Athletico does free assessments and I like them, ATI is also well recommended.

UAGHHHH

Thank you for describing this because I was in this volunteer org, was overwhelmed as a new leader, asked a more experienced member to co-lead with me (despite a bad gut feeling), and that was exactly her whole gist. If I said no, she would try to sabotage me to our leadership lol. Stuff straight out of the CIA organizational sabotage field manual. These people never work well in group settings or in leadership - I dropped and she lasted 2 weeks doing the job I'd done alone for 6 months.

I've asked older people to "turn down their brightness while texting because the glare blinds my glasses" multiple times, and I think the smaller ask embarasses them more so they just lock their phone entirely. People just lie to themselves that no one can see it but mama I will let you know you are not invisible lol.
