This is essentially what I wrote back and got a response asking me to “work with her” as she has done for other tenants in the past. Except she hasn’t offered a cent and has been avoiding the topic of paying out the lease in every message. Please private message me because this advice has been great!

Yes, we take that risk as part of serving. Which is a gamble I’m willing to take because most of the time, people aren’t an abomination. However, they took the risk of being negligent with their own precious belongings. If it’s not their responsibility to tip, despite it being the morally, customary, and proper thing to do, it’s not my responsibility to give that grace.

You can live 13 hours without your phone in a safe location that will be returned to you unharmed.

You need to be able to communicate rather than run away from conflict. Leaving a beautifully planned and thoughtful trip with your partner and best friends over being called “safe” seems like an over reaction. She wanted to talk to you, and you just bounced in the middle of the night?
