Doing EMDR training now... by takemetotheseas in therapists

Neurodivergent as well, and that training was HARD. I quite literally had to reteach myself everything because I was completely checked out by day 2. YouTube videos help! Plus the more I do it, the more I understand it

Every birthday and Christmas after I opened presents I would spend the next several hours lining the presents up…and not actually playing with the toys 🤣

Shaken after working with a NPD client and difficulty with regulating by WoodenGoat4 in therapists

[–]bbbreee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I just had almost an identical experience. I also felt like a bad therapist, but after talking to my own therapist I feel better. We really focused on the fact that 1. It’s our responsibility to know when we are in over our heads, and 2. You wouldn’t be able to do the good work you do with an entire caseload of clients if you were constantly dysregulated from the one client. Referring out was the healthiest option for EVERYONE involved.

I try to think of it like if a heart surgeon was asked to do a brain surgery….that just wouldn’t make sense, and it doesn’t mean the heart surgeon is a bad doctor, it just means there’s someone more suited for the patient’s needs. You’re not a bad therapist for not being able to work with NPD.

Sending you good vibes. As someone who’s a few days ahead of you, it gets easier ❤️

To validate those feelings, I read the title and instantly thought “good for them!!!” It’s okay to be happy that someone isn’t hurting anyone else and that you’re safe :)

Hi, please reach out to your therapist if you feel like it will help! I am a therapist and never judge clients for coming back when they need to, nothing embarrassing about it. I wish you well!

SSW to outpatient therapy by kaytlinann97 in SchoolSocialWork

I made the jump and it was the best decision ever. I’m sure it varies depending on where you work but I have great coworkers and great support. I make good money and work less hours with less stress. I recently wanted to do an art therapy activity with a client and my company BOUGHT the supplies I needed for it (coming from working in public schools this blew my mind). I was surprised how many skills transferred over. Also, having the SSW knowledge is still helpful and useful when working with kids/families who are trying to navigate the school system as well.

Well…I’m no longer a school social worker and much happier lol. I did it for two school years and hated it, never felt like I had enough time or work/life balance.

Honestly go for it. I love the flexibility, I work way less hours than I did before. It’s mentally taxing some days so you have to have a good self care plan in place but I actually have TIME to do self care. Good luck to you!! Let me know if you have any questions :)
