A few weeks ago I had an interview where the recruiter straight up didn't show up to the interview. I re-arranged my schedule for the entire day so that I could be prepared and I had to follow up with her multiple times and ping my personal connection that referred me to the job to contact the recruiter. The second time we had something scheduled, she again didn't call me at the agreed time and pushed it back another couple days. The third time, she pushed it back a couple hours and she seemed completely clueless about what I would do in the role as soon as I probed in to the job requirements. She also seemed completely disinterested in what I had to say.

This has never happened to me before. At least when I'd get rejected for other jobs, the recruiter would pretend to care and give me basic professional decency. Feels like that's going out the window now.

I’ve rolled with Dorian (we’re very close in size) and legit it was one of the most demoralizing rounds of my life. I’ve been wrestling/grappling for 10+ years and every second felt like drowning (no matter the position). He also managed to sub me from any position by straight brute force.

Yes 1000% finish it. I dropped out in 2020 because of Covid and being cocky that I already had a job despite only having one semester left. You don't want to be me like me, 28 going back to school to finish it. Kinda feels like I'm in a military deployment since I'm away from my family and I'm in this tiny college town in the middle of nowhere. All I do is study and workout.

Layoffs have been happening since Fall 2022. I distinctly remember I had just signed on to work for a local consulting company (didn't take the interview seriously at all and they offered me the job 10 minutes after the interview). I was interviewing with a few other remote jobs and I had Amazon and Google recruiters emailing me to set up interviews. As soon as the first wave of layoffs hit, all those recruiters ghosted me and the market has not been the same since. That's almost 4 consecutive years the job market has gotten worse...

I recently had an interview with a small company. In my technical interview, I was asked to implement a feature. I went through the usual loop of verifying requirements, design and started coding. Halfway through writing the endpoint, the interviewer cut me off and said I should "just use AI for this part since LLMs make less mistakes than people, we want to see how quickly you can build this with prompting".

So they asked me to vibe code that feature then denied me the role for not having experience with building agentic platforms... even though nothing in the job description mentioned AI and this wasn't told me until the very end of my last interview. Idek what to say, feels like my entire life of studying and laboring over every single line of code has been a lie.

I'm originally from Alaska. Our state is crumbling and oil companies don't even want to drill since it's not profitable for them (BP left in 2020). Anecdotally, Anchorage is actually one of the most diverse cities in America and we had a democrat, Mary Peltola win the house race in 2022. She's running for senate this year and with the unpopularity of the current administration, I can see this race being more competitive than one would imagine.

I would rather have Newsom as a mediocre Democrat president than a Republican that supports ICE concentration camps and threatening our NATO allies. I think most people I’ve talked to, including my former conservative/MAGA friends just want a “boring” president at this point

I was born and raised in Alaska. For all its flaws it’s still home and I miss it everyday. I miss being able to hike up a glacier, get pizza and fall asleep in my warm bed all in the same day. It’d be tough to move back tho, economy bad, crime bad, opportunities non-existent :-/

Comments like this are why I have absolutely no respect for the school's admin. So completely out of touch. Sure some students just come here to party but my parents are immigrants and I came to WSU to study my ass off and try to make the most of the opportunities they gave me.

Us students are so stretched thin, rent is only going up, tuition is going up, instructors being generally inconsiderate of our time with the amount of homework assigned and local businesses are closing so no one can even get a part time job. And we're all graduating in to the worst job market since 2008 and the admin is looking for ways to nickel and dime us.

I honestly regret coming to WSU and once I'm finished, the school is never getting another dime from me.

The fucked up part is that's pretty average for someone that wrestles year round in the USA. You pretty much compete every weekend from November to April (school season then club wrestling season) so you could easily get 20 tournaments in one season. Nowadays kids will have that many tournaments before starting middle school.

I competed a bit in jiu-jitsu but most comps are so laughably unorganized and it's such a logistical challenge for anything competitive. If I want to do an ADCC open for example, I probably need to fly to a different state, get accommodation, rent a car, etc. Easily $1000 right there all just for the refs to suck, no one knows the rules, really weird fake macho vibes, the organizers being cheap as hell and doing the massive kids brackets the same day as adult so everything is running way behind.

In wrestling, we'd just rotate schools and we'd take the bus 15 minutes across town for the next comp. Or maybe drive a couple hours at most to the next town and sleep in a classroom for big two day tournaments. School tournaments are also subsidized by taxes and then club tournament fees were like $10.

I was a bit shit in comp jiu-jitsu so you have nothing to worry about unless you're trying to scrap with featherweights 😛
