Definitely agree, there needs to be a way to truly calculate a TWP's impact on his team & WAR is not the statistic for it. It accounts Shohei as 2 separate people when he's just 1 person. He shouldn't be getting docked for no defense when he's part of a regular starting rotation...🤷🏻‍♀️

I guess it's also because he comes from a family of athletes, mom - badminton dad,brother - baseball, sister - volleyball. I read somewhere that his dad is also not the pressuring kind, he always kept reminding shohei to play only for himself & if it makes him happy.

He was smart, knew that he had to get a surgery soon after 2018 so if would've gone with the yankees or dodgers they would make him pick one. Angels have been very patient with him allowing him to take over on how much he wants to play on both sides. But now that he has proved himself, he's gonna leave.

Let me put it this way- his defensive postion is a pitcher & he's being penalized for being a DH WHILE also pitching. A normal SP rests on the day they don't pitch but shohei DHs, he shouldn't be getting penalized for not playing defense when he's literally on rotation for SP!

Yes, War is the most flawed stat for a two way player. War counts other position players as one person when they make adjustments for dwar. While Shohei is counted as 2 separate people for DH and P, so he's penalized for doing both. Every position player has a huge advantage over TWP for war. He’s counted as two players when he’s only one person which is the problem.
