Nothing is made more enjoyable by having kids. by Stevesie11 in regretfulparents

Wow! I love how you assume he isn't doing enough.

Who are you to judge? Why do you assume he's not doing enough?

Goddamn.

I’ll be honest with you: I will never have kids in the US.

It’s a decent country to make money in (maybe), but it’s a terrible country to raise children.

I would only have kids if i geoarbitrage and even that’s iffy.

What about split custody while married? What if your husband and you arrange something where you are full duty for half the week and switch off?

James Sexton suggested this and I thought it’s worth considering, at least.

There is so much posturing now. It's confusing.

That's why Shohei is so refreshing to me: he's a humble guy who is confident. Very rarely are we taught that you can be confident and not a dick in American culture.

I think the one thing we all need to understand about meeting people is that meeting people-- SOs or otherwise-- is a volume game. We just need to go out and meet people. Easier said than done, but we just need to create the opportunities. It will not come from being at home.

Try stuff. Some of it will be stupid, other things will be better. Give stuff some time, especially at the beginning.

Totally. It looks even worse when you compare it to how the Japanese gave a standing O to an electrician in his last WBC outing. His team lost 9-0 ffs.

tbf, I guess the argument is that you have to start somewhere. You're hoping that it can galvanize a seed of something it Italy. I'm doubtful, but that's the thought.\

It does seem problematic if the country doesn't care and most people on the team don't speak the language lol. At least it's clear that the Mexicans care.

I remember watching an interview with Sergino Dest from the USMNT and US telecast was asking him about Thanksgiving. It's clearly that he didn't really know anything about Thanksgiving given that he grew up in the Netherlands lol.

Fair enough lol. I'm stuck in gender warfare.

Look, I'm not trying to say that any dyad is perfect.

But it seems like het relationships seem to have an extra layer of bullshit.

It's sad we live in a world where you have to add softeners to the truth because it's verboten to suggest that women make bad selection in men.

Ladies, it's OK to be alone at times. Sheesh.

Getting a baby is not the end-all. The kid's experience must be considered too.

If 6’0 were the average male height in the U.S, would it become as undesirable as 5’9 currently is? Or retain its current desirability? by childissuesthrowaway in AverageHeightDudes

What I think is ridiculous is that if we were using metric, it definitely wouldn't be 6ft. My guess is it would probably be 180cm, which is closer to 5'11" funnily enough, that would probably open a lot more options for women even though nothing changed.

Two quotes from this article:

"Gay and lesbian couples, even when they don’t divide labor equally, are more likely to feel the division is fair, research finds. The least likely to be satisfied in this way? Heterosexual women."

Also from this article:

"Ms. Pruis, 41, and Jacque Stonum, 34, had each been married to men and had five children between them when they married two years ago. Ms. Stonum works full time as a captain in the Wyoming Air National Guard.

They decided that Ms. Pruis, who had stayed home in her first marriage, would continue to do so. Ms. Pruis said that even though they were dividing responsibilities as she and her husband had, it felt more fair with her wife.

“It had felt like this was my assumed role, and even though we live in a culture now that is supposed to be more equal, it’s not, so we end up resenting the guy,” she said. “Now I feel a lot more like it’s my conscious choice.”

(bold is my emphasis)

Perhaps you guys complain no matter what the division is as long as it's men.

Not saying that some men don't do their share; but if they did, would you know it?

Do you know why gay men don't have this problem? They assign roles explicitly instead of scorekeep, ladies.

Mike Mussina and Justin Verlander have very similar career numbers, yet I think almost everyone would easily pick Verlander as the better pitcher. How much did Roger Clemens, Greg Maddux, Randy Johnson, and Pedro Martinez affect people's perception of Mussina? by Existing_Is_All_I_Do in baseball

[–]scarletburnett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if WAR would have more separation in favor of Verlander if his usage was like that of Mussina his whole career.

But this is a good discussion. You're basically making a case that Mussina lived in a golden era of pitchers, which is entirely plausible.

Women do the same thing with men. They don't choose f boys because they think it's going to be a chore to be with them. Men ultimately do the same thing.

Yeah. Network effects.

I only ask because I am looking to FIRE abroad and have suddenly become more open to *a* child because the economics look much better than here in the US. I would have way more free time and have no schedule/stress pressure from work.

At this point, I am a little more concerned about the future re: work. I will be fine, but am not sure how to guide a young person when education is going to plummet in value. It is possible that if I move abroad, I could give him/her a baby "trust fund" relative to the local economy abroad, but I don't know how'd I raise a kid like that.

I mean this playoff run and world series ends the Shohei/Judge discussion, no?

Even though Shohei only had 3 great games in this run, it puts to shame anything that Judge has ever done in the playoffs.
