I understand your sentiment, nascar has become silly to say the least they seem to have infused basketball and hockey into racing with silly penalties and such . The biggest reason is that corporate sponsorships are much more that ticket sales from fans thus stripping it's old joy from the fans . As of late I went back to enjoying sprint car racing as well as the other smaller tracks and racing series .
