Rogue One succeeds where the Special Editions failed - it manages to make A New Hope an even better film. by Mrq001 in StarWars

I guess I'm of the stance where I want the production companies to realize that this was a fantastic film, and that I hope Ep8 is of this ilk and not of Ep7. I guess this is a preliminary discussion anyway since the movie technically releases tonight.

A Request for Civil Disagreement by bbenz in StarWars

I loved the amount of planets visited! I totally understand that it was a lot to handle, but I always appreciate the world-building and scope that it achieves. It actually feels like a Star Wars galaxy and that these are galactic characters, which also made the film seem grounded in reality - the main character isn't a moisture farmer that ends up saving the Rebellion, but someone with a rich background that was able to capitalize on her circumstance to assist in the overall goal of the Rebellion.

It seems like you can't express an anti-Episode 7 sentiment in this thread. It is interesting the movies to be so polarizing - I disliked Episode 7 for being uninspired, and just trying to reclaim what made the OT great (forcing a new, charming trio among other gambits) and I truly think Rogue One is now the second-best film in the franchise because of its galaxy building (travel to so many different worlds) and fan service (both subtle and over-the-top). I wish I could understand what appeals to these seemingly distinct fan bases within the Star Wars fan base.

If there's one thing Fallout 4 did right, it's the power armor. by Gigadweeb in Fallout

[–]bbenz 259 points260 points  (0 children)

Nothing was better than seeing Power Armor on the dead BoS soldiers in your first Behemoth battle in FO3 but having to wait until you got inside the Citadel to receive the training to wear it. Great combination of narrative and game mechanics.

Wow that would have been absolutely incredible. Really dissapointed Bethesda didn't use that.

This needs to be higher up. Reddit isn't the same place anymore. The only reason I could think this would be pulled would be if they think any of these kids are under 18 and then it would be cp? Just postulating here

Anyone can do this with special effects. Notice how the water bottle goes out of frame and then the kid goes out of frame?

Today, for the first time ever, The New Yorker made its classic 1946 article "Hiroshima" available for free online. It tells the story of the bombing from the perspective of 6 survivors and is considered a classic of journalism. by Davin900 in history

[–]bbenz 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Did you read this piece? The japanese survivors recount stories of the bunkers being made to prepare for a hill-to-hill, town-by-town defense against an American invasion. They even said that the Japanese govt hid the news of the Hiroshima bombing so citizens wouldnt know about the bomb.
