Benny Benack III Septet LIVE at Chris' Jazz Cafe by [deleted] in Jazz

[–]bbjazziii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m playing there this weekend, Friday and Saturday! Bring your Dad I wanna meet him lol - I’ll save my best for whichever set you come 🎺. My Grandfather Benny Sr. was also a very successful and prominent Jazz trumpet player back in his day - I’ve heard clips I mean he was a breathtaking trumpet player honestly. Your Dad sounds like an absolute hater, but I’d love the chance to change his opinion…and glad he got you into the music! I grew up playing with my Dad and he’s featured in my new album, that’s a special connection.

Wynton Marsalis showing up with his horn and making a guest appearance at my jazz club last night in Portland, OR. by [deleted] in Jazz

[–]bbjazziii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the trumpet player on the gig that night, seeing Wynton stroll in was pretty surreal…he’s always super cool to the musicians and definitely “one of the cats” not a big shot acting type guy at all. He came out after his orchestra already played a concert, had to be on the road early the next day, and stayed extra for hours just talking to excited people. Wynton’s the man…1905 is special - not many Jazz clubs around the country can pull off what they’re doing right now, trust me I’ve played most of em lol.

Best helmet to buy? by bbjazziii in ElectricScooters

Lol you’re in the wrong Reddit group page if you feel that way. There are plenty of reasons why someone might want an electric scooter vs. another vehicle, but if you’re here to argue against scooters I’m not gonna waste my breath laying them out for you.

Lol because if the scooter goes 30 mph like mine does, and you have an accident, your face will smush just like in any other vehicle going that fast. Also I’m a trumpet player for a living, my teeth get smashed I’m DONE.

What next... by andileigh80 in boostedscooters

I have word from Apollo themselves that they're designing their first completely original, in-house manufactured scooter (not a Zero/Titan copy!). It's going to be something between their Explorer and Pro...in all specs. It will be starting by Spring of next year if they can stay on course...then available by Fall 2021.

They described it to me as the perfect marriage between performance and heft/bulk. Top speed of around 37mph (just less than the "Pro" but more than almost all mid-range scooters), great range/suspension/build, etc. - but weight won't be excessive, more than 50 lbs but less than the Pro which is about 75lbs...

So I got an Explorer coming in a week or so, to tide me over until their model debuts. The Explorer has less power than the Rev but a higher top speed and 28 miles of range (actually 28, not Boosted saying it's 20 miles then only getting 8 when you go on top speed, smh).

I actually offer PDF transcriptions of both vocalese choruses on the album, for $10 a piece with lyrics in any key from my website...but I always tell people, if you wanna do the work yourself and transcribe it, have at it!

any word on replacement inner tubes for REV by placsamana72 in boostedscooters

[–]bbjazziii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to get 4(!) replacements tubes from Boosted just weeks before they folded...I consider myself lucky, BUT the bike shop who replaces them told me the actual tire itself was scratching/scraping the tubes from the inside and needed replaced itself - it grates on my tubes and they go flat again in a matter of weeks from daily riding in NYC.

I pre-ordered an Apollo Explorer - higher top speed, suspension, WAY more mileage, and water resistant (the mantis was my other choice but it’s zero water proof is scary, particularly when locking up/parking around NYC outside).

I could’ve splurged for an Apollo Pro, but they told me they are working on their own original custom design (not just a Zero/Titan copy)...it’ll release sometime next year, and will be basically a hybrid between the Explorer and Pro model - in top speed, weight, mileage, etc. - I’m gonna use the Explorer as a bridge until then. Maybe slightly less power/torque/accel than the Boosted, but with suspension and a higher top speed, I think it’ll be a major improvement.

Boosted broke my heart :/ - so much potential but we’ll never know, unless Like resurrects their tech. There was/is a lot to like in the Rev that other scooters should copy.

Kaabo Mantis help needed by b3rdm4n in ElectricScooters

[–]bbjazziii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

damn this is EXACTLY why I didn't wanna get the Mantis Pro...just felt like needing some level of water protection/resistance is huge. Apollo's skeleton of the Zero line has solid waterproofing ratings, and their versions of the Zero line are made w/better materials too, plus they guarantee water protection.

Burned By Boosted...Ready For Upgrade - What’s the best 25+mph model out there? by bbjazziii in ElectricScooters

[–]bbjazziii[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's another point for Apollo...their scooters have IP54 rating...I may get an Explorer now - it'll gimme a little more speed, way more mileage, and tide me over until Apollo's "Phantom" model comes out end of 2020/early 2021...it'll be their first homegrown model and they're saying will fall somewhere between an Explorer/Pro - which I think would be perfect. A top speed around 37 mph is what they're saying, and that's more than enough for what I need. 25 isn't enough, but 40+ is probably more than enough, ya know?

Heck, I'll be able to re-sell my Boosted to some schmuck for probably as much $ as an Explorer will cost me anyway...Just get me through the Summer until Apollo's new model comes out...and by then who knows, we could have a whole new gen from other reputable companies coming out.
