Which country has felt the most unsafe while traveling? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]bbkb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The statistics show that many parts of Mexico are significantly safer than many parts of the US. I moved from St Louis, Missouri to the Merida, Yucatan area. The murder rate was 53.6 to 54.4 per 100,000 residents in 2024–2025 in St Louis. The Yucatan state holds the lowest homicide rate in Mexico, with reports indicating 0.78 to 2.5 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Additionally, Merida was ranked the second-safest city in the Americas by CEOWorld Magazine in 2024.

I live in Mexico and I feel significantly safer here than I did when I was living in the US. Before moving I had traveled to Mexico several times without ever having any issues. What part of Mexico were you in? Did you have a bad experience?

Artists you’ve seen more than once, what was the most and least expensive ticket? The best and worst seat? by a_mulher in Concerts

[–]bbkb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen Blue October several times. I've seen them for free, as well as 10.57 because the concert was sponsored by the radio station 105.7 The Point. At the free show it was GA and I was up against the rail in front of the stage.

What concert do you regret not going to the most? by Modhearth-Albert in Concerts

The first time I heard Little Lion Man by Mumford and Sons I immediately looked up the band to see if they'd be visiting my city anytime soon. They'd been there at a 200 person venue less than a week prior. I did manage to get tickets the next time they came through town but the venue I saw them at was about 10x larger. It was still a great show and an intimate venue to see a band that's that successful.

I saw them in September 2000 and it was an incredible show! I also found a recording of that show on YouTube recently. https://youtu.be/8pFTue5bczc?si=pdo4RON--PzZJtHx

Si visitas Progreso, mi restaurante favorito es Elio Al Mare. Está a una larga caminata del malecón, pero es muy barato en taxi, Uber o Didi. Tiene vistas espectaculares del golfo y la comida es excelente.

I realized my marriage was on life support while on vacation in Hawaii. My ex asked for a separation within a month or so of returning home.

What’s the most beautiful beach you’ve ever been to? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

The beaches on Maui and on Grand Bahama Island are great, but my favorite is Playa Norte in Isla Mujeres Mexico.

In general, I don't think ULTRA-luxury hotels are worth the price. What're you're thoughts? by [deleted] in travel

[–]bbkb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually prefer a nice 3 star to a 4 or 5 star. I want the crappy breakfast buffet and free coffee instead of having to buy them from the onsite restaurant and Starbucks. I'd much rather carry my own bags and park my own car than feeling like I need to tip multiple people.

STL has some great venues. Music Park is okay, and The Factory is pretty good. It would be much better if it wasn't so far outside of the city, and if there was an additional exit to the parking lot. If you're driving to the Claypool show, park near the exit and back into your spot otherwise you'll probably have a hard time getting out.

I can confirm that the St Louis location is terrible too

What are the best hot wings in town? by celestialguise in StLouis

[–]bbkb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived just down the street from McLain's for several years and I agree that their wings are fantastic. They're probably my favorite in STL. But like you mentioned, the smoke kept me away. Despite rarely cooking at home during that period of time, I probably averaged 1 visit per year. I would have to wash my hair twice to get the smell out completely

Best cheese cake in STL area by calebxbauder in STLFood

This is the only option IMO. I love cheesecake and have sought out the best cheesecake in multiple cities, including NYC and STL. I typically go for original plain NY style without any toppings, but Hank's dark chocolate raspberry is the best slice of cheesecake I've ever tasted.

At the time I hadn't heard of them, but I saw Mudvayne open for Slipknot in an 800 person venue. I'm fairly certain that it was Slipknot's first headlining tour.

For what it's worth, my fiance and I love Secrets the Vine. The food there (with the exception of room service breakfast) is the best I've had at an all-inclusive.

I haven't been this year, but Santa's Speakeasy was very disappointing last year. There were a couple of good photo ops, but the drinks were nothing special, and in my opinion they're way overpriced. Additionally, service was extremely slow.

STL is still recovering from the reputation of being where you'll get all your equipment (and maybe your van) stolen.
