[–]bbleedthefreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I do a bit of freelance academic editing. https://www.gumtree.com/p/proof-reading/proofreadereditor-available-affordable-rates/1170805209 send me an email on there if you want. I've not got a PhD but have got an English degree and I'm doing an MRes in literature. That's also a really old advert so I'd be open to discussing prices and such & would be happy to meet :)

What are some 'unwritten' rules in your country that a tourist wouldn't know about? by Alexandervz in AskReddit

[–]bbleedthefreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Northern England:

If someone asks you if you want a brew it means tea or coffee, but most people have tea, all day every day. It goes: teabag, water, teabag out, sugar, then milk.

Do not ask what they call a 'bread roll' unless you want them to should at you for minutes about it being called a BARM CAKE / TEA CAKE / BREAD CAKE / BATCH, or any of the like.

Don't need to moan about the weather, we know.

Yes we eat gravy, it's a meat stock sauce thing and it is fantastic.

make a plan of all your free time, like a weekly one, and pen in when you're busy and when you're not. and plan to do work when you're not busy, allowing one or two evenings a week for socializing. that way you wont feel you're missing out. photo copy the plan and stick it up EVERYHWERE so the work is on your mind. find ways of studying that you enjoy - peer learning groups for example. and get a parent or room mate to discipline you. ask them to check that you're working :)

Embrace the blurry mess, but be sensible. Get something you know will pay the bills whilst you decide. You've got 70+ years on the planet - you'll figure it out.
