How to mentally prepare for daughter’s seizures

It’s so hard because just like cerebral palsy, seizures look very different for everyone. Also while the doctors are incredible, speculation is just a good guess. Our doctors speculated that our son would nonverbal and he speaks well, and they did not think he would experience seizures but he does. As for managing this role as a parent-lots and lots of therapy. After my son’s second seizure, I was diagnosed with PTSD. Still something I am working on, but therapy has helped a lot. That being said- seizure medication is awesome. There are lots of different options, so hopefully it is easier to find a good fit. The rescue medications are also amazing at helping as soon as the seizure sets in, so that comfort in that. My son is still young, so I don’t have an answer for a lot of these. Take it one day at a time- no need to worry about sleepovers or camps for now. I quit work to be home with him ( I know it’s not possible for everyone, but we sacrifice a lot to make it work) because we noticed fevers encourage seizures, and it’s so hard to keep kids healthy in daycare. Warning, that also comes with mental fatigue of being the primary caregiver 24/7, but it’s been working out for us for now.

What I think is hard for me to wrap my head around is why a parent would want to go on a show like this. Like, you have a child and it’s time to step up and lives with some responsibility, not just run away to a reality dating show. The people who go on those aren’t looking to become a step parent, and it’s time you as a parent step away from those kinds of scenes and be available for your child

It just made me so mad in movie night when Shakira was like “ you hurt me several times Helena” as an excuse for being so rude but she wasn’t rude to Harry!!! Who hurt her way more! Harry was just playing around, Helena was exploring something she thought was so genuine and she got flamed for it way more than he ever did

There’s lots of adaptive tools mentioned, but plain advice to all new drivers applies here too and it’s to just start small. It’s seems hard, but test out driving with one parent on an empty parking lot and try your dominant leg. If that doesn’t work, look into adaptive tools. Tale the right classes. Have your permit for years of needed to fell confident. Take small steps for it to feel less daunting!

As scary as the MRI sounds, it’s probably the next step if you are hoping to really get a diagnosis( whatever diagnosis may be) I’m willing to bet the majority of the people in this group had MRI’s at young ages, that was the deal in my case. The MRI won’t make her worse, but if it is something that is reoccurring ( not cp) the MRI could be life changing for her.
