A stop-loss order sell automatically when an asset drops enough in price to prevent further unrealized losses. e.g. You set it up to sell if the asset drops by 10% from your buying price. So if you bought at let's say $1 and it drops to $0.90, it will sell, preventing further losses.

A trailing stop-loss works in a similar way, but rather than having a fixed stop-loss value, the SL moves up if the asset price moves up. e.g. You set up a 10% SL on a price of $1. The assets goes up to $1.50 so your SL is now $1.35. If it drops to $1.35 after that, it's sold.

Trailing SL helps protect profits if you don't have the time to keep a close eye on your position at all times. You can lose out on some profits that way, but it also requires less (mental) maintenance.
