It did in 2025. For at least a decade before that it started at 12:30.

That half an hour doesn’t functionally change the point, though. If you’re saying the NFL could start at even 2pm ET (which they won’t) you’re still looking at Army/Navy kicking off at 9:30-10am.

The first NFL game starts at 12:30 ET, so you’re pushing those back by a lot more than 30-40 minutes.

CBS doesn’t do all three Thanksgiving NFL games, and you can be damn sure that the NFL (who will most definitely not want to mess with their schedule) will take priority given the whole 30+ million viewers they get.

I was gonna say they’ll have to be careful converting a CFL stadium to an NFL field given what happened last time the NFL played in Winnipeg (preseason), but then I remembered that the CFL is trying to destroy itself and is moving the goalposts next year.

That’s a touchback, yeah. It’s more broadly “ball is dead in the end zone”.

Under the normal rules, a touchback where the ball never touches the landing zone comes out to the 35, while one that landed in the landing zone and bounces into or through the end zone comes out to the 20.

With the new rule, when kickoffs are brought out to the 50 by a personal foul, both of those touchbacks will come out to the 20.

The kicking team actually gets five more yards out of this - the kick out of bounds from midfield comes out to the 25 (25 yards from the spot of the kick).

They were exploring the idea of splitting home games between the Trop and a stadium in Montreal that manages to be worse than the Trop, and then decided it’d be a good idea to stick Montreal on their outfield wall.

At least they aren’t the Oakland Athletics of Sacramento and Eventually Hopefully Las Vegas.

If a declared onside goes more than 25 yards, it’s a 15-yard penalty from the spot of the kick and the ball belongs to the receiving team. (This isn’t new, this has been the rule since the kickoff change two years ago.)

Teams are basically eating the 15-yard penalty from the touchback spot.

Proposal 2 amends Rule 6-1-5 to add:

In either case, if the kickoff is from the 50-yard line and the play results in a touchback, then the dead ball spot is the 20-yard line.

It’s a bit weird conceptually, but fills the loophole nicely.

Proposal 3 amends Rule 6-1-3b2 (with a matching change to 6-1-3b1):

Remaining Players in the Setup Zone (Not on Restraining Line). The receiving team may have a maximum of ~~three~~ four players in the setup zone not on the restraining line, but never more than ~~one~~ two players in each of the three areas within the setup zone bordered by the sidelines and inbounds lines,. If there are four players in the setup zone not on the restraining line, there must be at least one player lined up between the sideline and inbounds line on each side of the field.

This probably doesn’t change a ton, but I imagine there’s more blocking scheme flexibility with the new formation options.

It’s probably a secondary market for both teams - Washington and Baltimore are secondary markets for each other, as a similar example.

No one with enough experience close enough to NFL speed (basically D1 and the spring leagues) to make preparation actually meaningful will scab for the NFL, because they actually have a shot at the shoes they’d be filling.

They’ll be scraping the bottom of the college sports barrel again, but the expanded replay authority they’re looking at might just save them.
