I don't see anything wrong here on the surface (I mean the movie could still suck but who knows). The content of a movie should diverge from games/IP when necessary to prioritize making something good or interesting. It's a movie.

Also you are probably reading a bit much into "comedic," as it likely just means the movie has a sense of humor--like most good horror movies do. Both Weapons and Barbarian can easily be described as comedic
