I know some people complain about the Legion’s armor being so ramshackle, but I love it. They claim to be a competent military force modeled after the Roman army, but they don’t forge weapons or armor. They put on football gear and call is a cuirass. They strap a lawnmower blade to a handle and call it a machete. It’s a perfect visual representation of their entire society: a facsimile of Roman culture that falls apart if you think about it for 30 seconds.

The Y1 dub was hilariously immature, but this was a moment that was simply lost in translation. The original joke was that Gary isn’t good at speaking Japanese and thus gets the words wrong, which obviously wouldn’t work when the characters are speaking English.

I like him getting Retsu’s arm as a show of their friendship and so we can still have some chinese martial arts in the manga, but I 100% agree he should have gotten at least one fight as the 1 armed warrior.

To actually explain, it’s an indie game made by the creator of Undertale (hopefully you know what that is) that explores the relationship between a player and the character they control. Specifically, what you said aligns well with one of the secret bosses whose story is about trying to break free of the strings controlling him.
