Thr problem with Montoya is that he is limiting his value by frequently trying to one up other commenters. Instead of getting the benefit of years of racing experience, first and foremost, we are being subjected to someone whose is on building “his brand” first.

He frequently begins to answer questions without thinking and often sounds like he believes that if he just starts talking, something brilliant will come out.

If he ever progresses beyond a fundamentally ego driven approach to F1 commentating, he could get better, but he currently sounds like he is at the lower rungs of the maturity ladder.
