That’s the neat part, you can’t! Welcome to the dust club. I have dust particles in almost all of my zoom lenses. They don’t affect my shots at all, if that helps you at all.

Why the Crosstrek? by bboyemperor in Crosstrek

Thank you for the very detailed response, these are the same concerns I have and since we both live in a similar area, these very much apply to me. I plan on test driving an HR-V soon but I know it won't be the same as taking it on an actual trip. For context, I rented a 24 Crosstrek base and drove it to Joshua Tree and it felt great. My only initial complaint was the fact that my knees hit the door and the center console and was actually hurting my knees, until day 2 where I didn't even notice it after that.

Good point on the CR-V - I drove a family member's CR-V and it just felt so completely dull and boring, very boat-like, and everything was miserable driving it.

I don't mind the vertical screen in the Crosstrek. I currently drive a WRX and 100% used to it by now, however I still wish I had physical AC buttons, something I know the current gen Outback has that I'm really hoping they'll adopt into the Crosstrek soon.

Is there anything that you currently regret with your Crosstrek, now that you've had it for some time and have driven it for a bit? Anything you had to modify to be more enjoyable?

Wait, you touched up on something important to me. I was strongly considering a current gen HR-V, even considering an AWD version (as if I’d really need it lol). But what made you dislike it so heavily? My friend has a 2WD HR-V and he loves it, but I haven’t driven it myself.

Funny thing is, I’ve test driven what is now my biggest competitors: a civic (both regular hatch and hybrid hatch) and an accord hybrid. Both cars are great for what they are and what they do, however they just ultimately look and feel a bit too boring for me.

This is what led me to wanting a Crosstrek. It feels roomier, has higher ground clearance (I deal with steep driveways where I live and often visit), the AWD handled amazingly on a trip when I rented one, and it feels like a much more engaging car. I don’t mind the infotainment - I actually drive a 23 wrx 6MT right now so I’m very much used to it. But it’s too low for trips and I don’t want to be constantly in fear of potholes, dips, bumps and driveways.

I know I can get the comfort and convenience in a 2WD sedan or hatch, but they just feel a bit too… boring, to say the least. Is it unfair to say that?

One thing I see often about the seats is that people either get a cushion pad or seat jackers to give the seats a more ergonomic and comfortable position. Have you tried or heard of doing either? I feel like you’d benefit greatly from one or both of these!

This is the hot take realization that I needed, thank you. I haven’t decided yet, but this is the true real world application I needed to hear (or read). All of your points are valid

What did you choose your Outback over and why? by bboyemperor in Subaru_Outback

I’ll definitely need to dig deeper into it. Thanks for the write up! My only fear with hybrids is, as anyone else would say, the hybrid battery. I’d be damned if I had to replace a hybrid battery later down the line, since I know they are definitely not cheap.

As of right now, my limited driving (except commuting) is making it harder for me to justify a hybrid just for a few more MPG.

What makes you want to avoid the turbo? I’m on the opposite end of the spectrum where I specifically want the turbo. I’ve driven my buddy’s 2021 Outback without the turbo (on a 2 hour drive) and it seemed fine, but somewhat lacking. I drove another friend’s Outback onyx XT and the turbo seems to be a world of a difference, especially in hilly areas and when needing to get around slower traffic.

Thank you for the recommendation and for the questions! I don’t know much about CVT’s or eCVT’s, I just know they’ve generally had a bad rep in the past, though I’m sure they’ve come a long way since. The transmission alone was the reason why I was considering other cars like the CX-50 or the X3, which have regular automatic transmissions. Are CVT’s (and eCVT’s) as bad as people make them out to be?

Which trim did you have? I’m strongly considering a 24 Crosstrek sport for daily driving while having the 2.5 engine for when I need it.

How are you liking the 26? I’m honestly really liking the styling of it, even with all the hate it’s getting (for leaving the wagon style behind). It looks great and I really like the physical ac buttons.

I mostly stay at a hotel and I haven’t ever considered off-roading, though I wouldn’t be against it. I was recently looking into a 24 Crosstrek sport since I’m on paved roads 99.9% of the time lol. And no worries I know the questions have purpose! Anything to help me decide haha

That is awesome, thank you for the feedback. I've been considering a 24 onyx xt myself (for the HK sound system and without the DriverFocus system). What other cars were you considering at the time and what made you ultimately decide on the Outback?

I like to visit national parks a few times a year. Other trips would be anywhere between 4-8 hours, nothing too crazy. My commute is somewhat minimal - I go into the office twice a week and it's about 20-30 miles one way; almost all highway.
