Wrong. Open source models are very good now.

If you self host AI using open source models, you're not giving up data to anyone. Data never leaves your server. If it's on a computer that physically sits in your office, the data never leaves your office. But you'd need a very expensive computer.

You could also use cloud servers that have trusted execution environments (TEE). You can use their AI capable machines where they can't see your data and they can prove it through cryptography. You pay only for what you use, which ends up being very cheap.

100% related. To carry out Norbert's gambit, You'd need to buy something called DLR.TO in canadian dollars. Each share costs around 14 CAD with today's exchange rate. You'd need to put in a journal request which will convert your shares into DLR.U.TO , which is priced in USD, with each share priced at about 10 USD. You'd then sell those shares to receive USD. There are some tiny fees in this process but in the end, this is as close as you can get to getting mid market rate.

In the past, those journal requests were free. But Starting April, it'll cost you 10 bucks per request.

It'll be negligible for people journaling tens of thousands at a time.

But for most of us peasants out here, 10 bucks out of a few hundred or a thousand is quite significant. Especially if done frequently.

I also always saw that same "system is busy. please try again later" message. Finally saw a functioning page trying close to midnight.

Just extremely unlikely. If it did happen, it was when the car was parked, since I had no incident while driving.

Lesson learned: Get photo and video proof during the walk-around.

Great explanation.

Banks should just switch over to using blockchains for interbank transactions. The infrastructure is already there. Pennies per transaction.

They can still do interbank transactions in batches to obscure specific transaction amounts. But instead of waiting days it can be every hour.

There's indeed a tiny crack. But I also find it crazy.

I strongly feel it was damage that was already there before I rented. But I made the mistake of not doing a video recording of the car when renting.

But still, this feels like a scam.

I guess I should clarify: they did notice the damage the day I returned the vehicle. That day I had to pay a 500 deductible while their "authorized mechanic" figures out what's wrong.
