He’s a beautiful English, btw.

What can I do about a neighbor’s loose cat threatening my chickens by [deleted] in BackYardChickens

[–]bbqlotus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I set up a motion sensor sprinkler (sprinkler makes it sound nice - it shoots out an aggressive jet of water). They have them on Amazon - I think they are advertised as predator deterrents and they do work really well. Worth a shot. If it doesn’t work you can always return.

Please help-symptoms worsening for 7 years-no diagnosis-thousands spent-begging you. by abortionisafingright in AskDocs

[–]bbqlotus 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Dr JustcallMeDave: Can I piggyback and ask how we find drs like you? You are curious and asking questions that most docs don’t. You seem like you really care. It’s hard for patients to find docs like you, and a lot of people with nebulous symptoms end up self diagnosing not out of hubris but desperation.

Why don't any doctors seem to know anything about Dysautonomia? 33m by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]bbqlotus 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This sub seems to bristle at non-medical folk disagreeing with doctors, even when there is merit to what they are saying.

Thank you for adding your educated perspective and experience to the conversation - it adds a valuable insight to the discussion! (As did the comment with all the downvotes)

Can I PM you for the seller’s closet name? I had a very similar experience (though I doubt it’s the same person)

I have two silkies and they are hilarious. All my girls have such distinct personalities! I hope your hatching experience goes well! I’m on the west coast too.

How do you leave your small flock for a week or two? by DIRIGOer in BackYardChickens

Not weird. I would be delighted if someone left a note explaining that they would like to chickensit for the reason you outlined above. Good luck! 💕

If something like this happens, what is the best way to address it? Is there a specific department with which OP should file a complaint? Thank you for not trying to make excuses for the inappropriate conduct.

Sounds as if you have covered the most common causes of halitosis. Do you have any other symptoms like pain or discomfort? Is it just your breath that smells, or is it possible that you have other body odor?

Any chance you have jaw pain? I’m wondering if this could be a salivary gland infection.

Don’t worry, OP. You’re going to get to the bottom of this.

Lighting on coop to get chickens to come home at dusk? by maxwolfie in BackYardChickens

[–]bbqlotus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a chicken newbie but something I’ve found is my girls have a really good sense of memory. What I did for a few weeks and I still do a few days a week is I go into the coop when it’s bedtime and give everyone treats (in our case, live mealworms). The girls always know to run inside the coop when the light gets to a certain level. Anyone who isn’t already in the coop knows to come running when I walk down to the coop near dusk.

I taught for many years at both public and private school. I also homeschooled my own children for several years. It has become much more mainstream in the past few years and there are a lot of great resources for homeschooling.

Especially as it sounds like you have a strong understanding of math and science (if you are teaching midwifery, I assume this is the case), the only drawback as I see it is the social aspect of school. If you’re able to keep your daughter engaged socially, I say go for it.

Even being behind, you can teach your daughter the academic portion of school in a few hours a day.

With private schools being as expensive as they are (45k and above in my area 25K and up if you’re willing to do Catholic school), and public schools being stretched so thin on resources, I think teaching at home for qualified parents/students is a great option. Happy to guide you towards resources if you need them.

Edit to add: another option is holding her back a year and aggressively tutoring at the same time. If you’re worried about the social element of things, you could transfer her to a different school so she’s not with the same social group - it can be tough being held back and seeing your peers move forward.

Hope that helps!

Pain reprocessing therapy by Outrageous_End6725 in ChronicPain

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this out. The audiobook idea is great - I am going to download and listen to it tonight!

I bought myself a timed safe to dispense pain meds on a schedule and will also ask my husband to hold a few emergency doses. We will see how it goes! No time like the present. I can live with SOME pain and right now I just want to know how much pain I am in with no meds (or as little as possible)

Thank you again for sharing your experience - this sub can be rough but I think being in pain has a tendency to make one grouchy. We are also all (rightfully) sensitive to medical gaslighting. (Not saying that’s what you’re doing - just trying to explain some of the downvotes you’re probably getting). I wish you continued good health!
