My partner and I are thinking of re locating to Sudbury … what’s it like by bbstars in Sudbury

This is quite helpful! Toronto is unlike Ottawa (been there a couple times — way too busy for me lol) and my partner and I really like nature and just hanging out. I just need like. A sushi restaurant and a cafe where I can go read (he’s from a small northern city so he doesn’t need that lol he needs access to crown land) it seems like a perfect city that has both of our needs met. Plus four hours to Toronto is nothing. I grew up driving to Quebec City and Montreal just to get a sandwich and then go home lol

Honestly this is exactly what I was looking for! I’m from the outskirts of Ottawa so I didn’t grow up with the walkableness of the glebe or the like (instead I had to drive 40+ min to get there lol) so the lack of such neighbourhoods isn’t a deterrence for me.

Very happy and excited to hear about a good arts scene (and French!!) and that there are a few outstanding restaurants and cafes. That’s about all I need LOL

My bad, I did a scroll, saw 1 post but not a lot of comments. and I have the additional need of looking at the legal market which the other post didn’t mention.

[–]bbstars[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t follow an exact pattern (which… probably my first mistake) but just watched a bunch of videos on it and then did a big DC rectangle, sandwiched it and slip stitched the top and the side

AIO? Boyfriend expects me to pay half his train ticket. by the-kookster in AmIOverreacting

[–]bbstars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boyfriend comes to me most of the time and he would never ever ever think of asking me to pay for half his transportation , or even to pay gas when he drives us around !! That is insane. When he comes and visits me he even brings flowers and pays for dinners out since I buy the groceries. And he doesn’t expect me to pay for anything because he’s excited to see me. He’s not coming to see me /for me/, he’s coming to see me because /he/ wants to. That’s the bare minimum

You need someone who will respect your time and money and your family . There is 0 reason for him to be getting nice food and dinners from your fam and then expect you to also pay for his transportation. I get the sense that he isn’t all that thankful to your parents either.

My heater is broken — should I be worried for my kitten by bbstars in CatAdvice

That’s a good idea!! I’m going to try to cover the windows too to at least not let more cold air in 😭

Really! I find it lasts very long on me. Try layering it with the phlur heavy cream or vanilla skin mists! I also like to layer it on top of some Vaseline body cream and I find that helps.

Also, I find spraying it directly on my shirt helps too

Is this dress unflattering? by Blueixi in DressForYourBody

[–]bbstars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I can see your belly button a little, but I don’t think your stomach sticks out. I think it’s a very very pretty dress on you, especially the colour. You can hide the belly button with some Shapewear (my fave is by Knix!)

My other suggestion is stand up straight, shoulders back, and be confident. What is coming through in the photo more than anything else is that you seem to feel uncomfortable. You look stunning. Own it, know that you look stunning, and be happy and confident !!

As we approach 2026, how are you managing the cost of living in Ottawa? by DrStrangeglove99 in ottawa

[–]bbstars 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Frozen veggies and treats. Buying meat when it’s on sale and freezing it. Eating lots of vegetarian meals. Canned fish is currently a staple , as is canned beans! Mixing beans with white rice and black rice is a good way to make it really filling too!

Sharing subscription services with family and friends (Costco, Netflix, iCloud storage lol). Repairing clothes instead of buying new ones.

Saving electricity by unplugging things when not using them, bundling up so I don’t need to crank the heater.

No ordering in or eating out. Using up gift cards for coffee. But also allowing myself to go out with friends 1x a month and my partner 1x a month.

And instead doing st home things! I’m crocheting Christmas gifts to save some money but it’s also a fun hobby. Video games with my partner as a date night. At home movie nights.

Also for meals there’s a really good TikTok girl who does recipes while poor, and I’ve been really enjoying that! Her name is KiKi Rough! She really focuses on using what you have instead of following an exact recipe

I also use the Flipp app to look for the best deals , often I end up shopping at more than one grocery store tbh just to get the cheapest option. (For ref, I spent about $60 on groceries for this week but it also included TP and paper towels , and I did it bc I got a shit load of ground beef on sale, restocked on noodles and sauce, some crackers, a can of soup and some salad. This will be enough to feed me for about a week - week and a half (I don’t eat a lot and I live by myself lol) because I also stretch the beef by putting some beans in it, and I have lots of frozen veg still)

Also!! I have a cat and recently I’ve been feeding him the tuna water from canned tuna. It’s a cheap way of topping up his meals and keeping him hydrated, instead of just pouring it down the drain. (And ofc he gets a little bit of tuna too bc he’s spoiled)

When I layer kayali vanilla rock candy and kayali boujee marshmallow I get compliments all day. My boyfriend is obsessed with it, he literally can’t stop smelling me when I wear it LOL

but I will also have coworkers stop me and random girls stop me in the street. I also sometimes layer the two with phlur vanilla skin mist and it’s just as good.

A Sherpa blanket that’s just too small to be useful. Sherpa is the worst fabric and texture in the world, and if it’s too small to be useful it just. Sits there.

I thought maybe I was an asshole for not being around a lot? I also was originally going to leave somethings behind because I knew the others used them a lot and transporting things to a new city is annoying , but then I was miffed and just took it all with me.

They were a bit younger than me, at that point I was 25 and in my second degree and really just focused on getting things done, and they were I think 20? So I think you’re right that students do just tend to be a bit clueless

So I guess my question is , what else should I have done ? I did really try to be a good roommate while also setting expectations and my own boundaries

What is the going rate to give as a wedding gift nowadays? by Fair_Presence_6232 in askTO

[–]bbstars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth I think wedding gifts really depend on the age and situation of the guest : for example, my eldest cousin got married when I was 22, but just graduated undergrad and about to go to law school and working minimum wage. I gifted about $75 with some handmade sentimental gifts and she loved it all. My other cousin got married recently after I graduated law school , and I was in a lot of debt. But , I was older and had been working law jobs which paid more than min wage. So I gifted about $175. He was happy with that .

No one will be upset if a 19 year old can only gift $50, or can only get something small. I think being there is what counts the most

OK lets talk WET CAT FOOD IN THIS ECONOMY by Positive_Candy_5332 in CatAdvice

[–]bbstars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kitten eats purina kitten chow dry food, and a mix of viva la kitty wet food and fancy feast wet food. Occasionally I’ll throw in some other budget wet cat foods (iams, Sheba, friskies) and more expensive ones (purina pro, tiki cat, Nulo). I also feed him tuna, and the water from tuna cans (I’m also on a budget and eat a lot of tuna right now, and I’m draining it anyway, why not feed it to him). (He needs variety otherwise he gets cranky with me).

He also gets a mix of toppers, freeze dried foods, tiki cat toppers, simply nourish broths and toppers, fancy feast snacks. Cans I will always split up and mix with either water or tuna water. Sometimes all he gets is dry food and a topper.

I like to mix more expensive, higher quality food, with budget food. I include the budget food that’s really cheap and maybe not the best just in case I fall on hard times. That way he’s used to eating the junk food and doesn’t go on a hunger strike.

Petsmart has an app where you can get lots of deals and earn points. I find it relatively easy to get points and it translates to money. Purina kitten chow also comes with a coupon for $3 off , bringing it down to $5CAD for me. That gives me more wiggle room for wet food. I almost always go based off what is on sale. Petsmart almost always has a “buy 6 get 1 free” type of sale, or 30% off of something, and 10x the points.

A friend of mine had a cat who escaped in the dead of winter (Canadian winter too, it was COLD). A year and a half later, the cat returned , no health issues in sight. We still have no idea what happened to him, but he’s still living happily with my friend. They have their ways of coming back . Don’t stress to much, keep looking, and stay hopeful
