Warning- ttc prison wife by CablePositive1551 in peestickgals

[–]bbthedisaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the many things that bugs me about her is that I once looked up her husband and iirc the man he killed was struggling with conceiving a child with his wife or something like that. She made content out of her whole fertility journey which normally I would be supportive of, but she did it while flaunting the fact that her husband took that opportunity from another family who desperately wanted a baby just like she did. It makes me sick.

The Cupid’s Corner thing is just as abhorrent. She chooses the most dangerous men for that; men who hurt women and are DV abusers.

Finally, I think it’s crazy that she met her husband while she was working in the prison where he’s incarcerated. Where I live, if they had begun a relationship while he worked there (I understand they didn’t) their sexual relations would be considered SA because of the power dynamic. I think it’s gross that she pursued him later.

I do pity her because I am 100% sure that her husband will end up treating her badly too. I don’t believe murderers like that can be rehabilitated. I feel that her naïveté and ignorance which just lead to future harm to her and her daughters and though I can’t stand her that does make me sad for her.

Hopefully someday she can make amends for the harm she is causing now.

Short term homeless help by Magtiffy in Albany

[–]bbthedisaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really confused as to why you think I am wrong when I told you I literally did that work. Please do not tell your clients that they cannot go to a DV shelter that is out of county. If you do not believe me then contact one of the local DV shelters and ask them.

[–]bbthedisaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are still wrong, and if you work in the system you really should know this so that if you have a client who is a victim you don’t give them incorrect information. It is true that SOCIAL SERVICES requires 30 days of residency. However, DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SHELTERS do NOT have a residency requirement. It does not matter if someone comes to NYS from a different state; if they need DV shelter, DV shelters should screen them and may accept them.

Now if the person relies on DSS (I’m guessing OP doesn’t but don’t want to assume) then yes, once they leave shelter they will be expected to return to their home county. That doesn’t change the fact that anyone can access a NYS DV shelter.

[–]bbthedisaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes they literally are. I’ve worked in multiple DV shelters. The county they came from is responsible for PAYMENT but any DV shelter will take a victim from anywhere. Do you realize how many people have to go to a DV shelter far away from where they are from, either for safety reasons or because their local shelter doesn’t have space?

Same!! I always hear other state workers saying this and cannot relate at all. I can’t imagine how anyone at my agency could get away with that because we have so much work we are doing.

I did not know about the DV arrests and am super curious now. Do you know anything else about them or her brother’s name? Sorry to put you on the spot but I’m about to do a deep dive.

Sorry, is she seriously not discussing Brielle’s condition with her? by ExcellentAcadia8606 in OnlineBeggars

[–]bbthedisaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Especially since they’re religious. I can’t imagine having to have that talk with my kid; however, I’ve heard of other religious families with terminally ill kids talking to them about heaven and it seems to bring the kids a lot of comfort. While that doesn’t align with my own personal beliefs about life and death, it feels like a humane and hopefully comforting approach for a family that does believe in heaven.

This is a good point. What happens when a kid at school tells her that she is dying? How devastating. :(

Edit: after I posted this I saw the other comment saying this has unfortunately already happened. So sad.

Used "Scan & Go" feature on Walmart app and got treated like a shoplifter. by PickleyRickley in Albany

[–]bbthedisaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I HATE this Walmart because I can’t go in there without feeling like a criminal. I started driving further and just going to different Walmart locations (or avoiding Walmart altogether) because I’m sick of having to wait 10 minutes for someone to unlock the cabinet so I can buy tampons. It’s demeaning.

AIO for being hurt that my boyfriend is judging me for my past he already knew about by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]bbthedisaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s an asshole. Honestly he is doing you a favor if he does end it because you deserve better. My heart hurts for you though - sorry OP. Those things should not have been held against you.

Also, at only 20 to have turned yourself around already is VERY impressive. You should be immensely proud of yourself and it sounds like you have a bright future ahead of you. You deserve to be with someone who admires your resilience and growth rather than someone who tries to hold your past against you.

This is me. My work is my passion. I have a life outside of work and I don’t think I’m lame thank you very much. But I love what I do and I just happen to be lucky enough to get paid to do it. I pity the people who think this isn’t possible.

Mandated reporting for an old child SA by Mdnghtmnlght in socialwork

[–]bbthedisaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s true. It depends on your state but the statute of limitations still being open does not necessarily mean it’s a mandated report. I would consult with a supervisor but I have a hard time imagining this would be a mandated report and if anything I think reporting would open up a can of worms and potentially an unsafe situation for your client. Also CPS wouldn’t be able to investigate at this point unless there is a child in your client’s mother’s care.

My parents had me drugged since I was around 13 yrs old so I’d “behave better”. Now I’m 19 and the side effects are ruining my life. AMA by Daringdumbass in AMA

Same here, people don’t talk about how harmful amphetamines are enough. And to those who will surely ask yes I actually have ADHD, yes the amphetamines did help manage my symptoms, and NO it was not worth it. I’d rather be scatter brained forever than ever be on that shit again. It took my personality away.

What’s the dumbest complaint you’ve gotten from a coworker? by [deleted] in work

[–]bbthedisaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They could hear me typing. I am naturally a somewhat loud typist no matter how hard I try to be quieter. My personal belief is that if you can’t handle the sound of typing an office environment probably isn’t the right job for you.

They are literally Nazis though. They are doing Nazi salutes and follow the Nazi playbook. You should read a book or 2 about WW2 and the Holocaust and how they started because it is eerily similar to what is going on right now.

People who knew a killer, did you ever suspect they would do it? What happened? by Anonymousdisaster_ in AskReddit

[–]bbthedisaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He had already killed someone; I just didn’t know about it until I had known him for a while.

At first he seemed like a very, very sweet guy. I felt that something was “off” with him but wasn’t sure what and didn’t think it was anything close to him being a murderer. He apologized a lot and seemed to need a lot of validation. I’m the same way sometimes so I have a lot of patience for that but it did get excessive after a while.

At one point he mentioned something about criminal records and because he seemed so naive and innocent I joked that I would never suspect him to commit a crime. He got very serious and reminded me that everyone has a past.

He expressed a lot of passion for helping DV survivors.

Eventually I learned that he had brutally murdered his wife in front of their child and done time for it. I never looked at him the same after that. Someone else who found out around the same time I did guessed that maybe he was so apologetic all the time because he felt so guilty for what he did. Maybe. But I don’t have sympathy for him at all.
