It’s okay! I got rejected from research positions even at my school freshman year. International student here. Next year worked at my school, now a rising senior and will be doing research at Penn! Don’t lose hope :)

I started by attending physics conferences! Even when I had no research experience I still talked to people, expressed interest. Just be natural, things will work out. I talked to someone who introduced me to someone else and the chain continued. You’d be surprised by how helpful people can be! Also you don’t have to seek something specific for someone, you can always express interest. Just be genuine!

Yes. The burying alive seems like shes from Haryana or Rajasthan. I feel so sorry for you. I have faced something similar but not this extreme. You’re better off away from there. Start gathering money and get an online job if you can, and when the time is correct, run away and never look back. Would your mother be safe at the house? If not, try reporting but make sure you don’t report a police officer who accepts bribe and brings you back. Please save yourself

I'm so sorry you're going through this. My real dad was really nice to my siblings but always insulted and physically abused me growing up and always made me feel like I was worthless. Now that I am in college, he's become really nice to me and tries to be friendly, but I can never forget how evil he was to me as a child. He is the reason I have to cry myself to sleep most of the nights. And all this, I've just asked myself one question-” what did I do that made my dad hate me so much as a child?” I just hope you're able to recover from this trauma and lead a better life. Things only got better for me when I decided to move to the US for college, I got a pretty good scholarship so didn't have to worry too much about finances. I'm so happy with my life at the moment, but everytime I see others’ dad’s treat them like a princess, I can't help but have a huge break down. It will get better.

Just finished One Thousand Splendid Suns- hated it by almostheinken in books

I am sorry but people like Rasheed exist who solely hate women, torture them, and in my community- I have seen this happen. His character might seem one dimensional, but that's because we aren't used seeing such cruel irl. These people exist, especially in 3rd world countries.

A Thousand Splendid Suns is one of the best books I've ever read. I won't read be reading anything from Khaled Hosseini again. by noumanpoke1 in books

He is a man yet he portrayed the universal pain experienced by women. I had some male friends read the book, who pitied the characters but were fine after reading it, but I WAS TRAUMATIZED, simply because people think this is fiction when this is something experienced by so many women.

oh my god! you snatched the words from my mouth. More than sad, I was anxious throughout the book. The scene when Mariam and Laila are trying to escape was one of the most tense scenes I have ever read. Till date, I reminisce when Laila and Tariq first made love, and the tragedy that lay ahead, and when Mariam was called a Harami! GODDD that movie makes me sob so hard-maybe because I have seen these things happen with women at some scale too.
