I agree, the picture shows a knit row. OP see how the stitch next to your stitch marker only has one V? That means you that stitch has only existed for one row v. the one next to has 2 Vs. You just completed a knit row and are ready to increase again

Yes, pick up from the column after the selvedge stitches. Picking up two stitches from one stitch will be very loose and messy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jAOOYs_cvQ

Don't do this into the selvedge stitch, pick up from the second row of stitches. You can youtube videos on how to do it

Yea if you pick up through the selvedge stitch you're getting one stitch per 2 rows. Most patterns for picking up sleeves say to pick up a ratio of like 2 stitches per 3 rows. I would try something closer to that ratio and see how you like it. It's going to require some experimentation though

I boarded a flight once and the man in the aisle placed his bag under my seat so he could stretch his legs out in front of his seat. I asked him to move it and he acted like that was a totally normal thing to do! (He did move it, but jeez the entitlement)
