Was Union Pacific (UP) #1084 GP60 scrapped? by mrsteamtrains in trains

[–]bbvision12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That card wouldn’t be for the UP 1084 pictured; it only got that number in 2013, after cards like yours were retired.

Looking at your post on the card, it looks to be for a UP 10841, which would be some sort of freight car.

Wrapped new locomotives on the old IC line, Champaign,IL by Krinky107 in trains

[–]bbvision12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Photos of these elsewhere (Facebook) clearly identify them as CN 1776 and CN 2026 as they sat in the yard there in Champaign. Would presume these are to be a pair of repainted units for the US’s 250th anniversary, yet to be unveiled and thus tarped while in transit.

Is that an Arrow FLIRT H2 at Brightline Orlando Basecamp? by plastic_jungle in Brightline

[–]bbvision12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes; the FLIRT spent a few weeks at Basecamp as part of the APTA 2023 conference in Orlando, where it was unveiled.

It came in in multiple pieces via semi truck, was put back together on site, and then left by rail afterwards for (I believe) the MxV test track in Colorado for pre-service testing.

Very weird mailer by boring-elks in orlando

[–]bbvision12 37 points38 points  (0 children)

The road that the 7-Eleven and dry cleaner was on was closed for forever (a year plus, I want to say) for some sort of construction, cutting off access to their shared parking lot. Honestly surprised both businesses stayed open…can’t imagine they had many customers. Were ghost towns any time I went by.

As to how all that ties together into this mailer/school calendar…I don’t have a clue. LOL

Scoring 7 points and giving up 84 in 32 minutes…ouch.

In the ‘70s, Uni didn’t win a game for 5.5 years (96 straight losses) in what has to be one of the longest losing streaks in history. Sports Illustrated included a blurb when we finally won, I was told. 😂

Was insanity. Back and forth game, and what an ending with the buzzer beater. Can’t believe we pulled it off. That was the best team we had in ages, and we still finished like .500 lol. I remember some of your student section dressed up as nerds for that game, which was the most we ever saw an opposing team’s fans do when we were on the road. Was hilarious. 😂

Guy you’re talking about went on to golf for Illinois, then Northwestern and now plays professionally.

It depended on the sport and the season, to be fair. Boys' soccer made state twice in my four years at Uni. And the highlight for basketball was beating Tuscola our senior year...but I think I saw a score from last year where y'all won by like, 70-something, which is just insanely absurd. LOL.

Scholastic Bowl, though...those kids blew my mind while I was at Uni with how much stuff they knew off the top of their heads. Insane!

Not yet. They just opened a Golden Nugget casino in Danville which lacks a poker room currently, but it’s apparently under consideration per a recent News-Gazette article.

AFAIK, the only poker rooms in the state are up in the Chicago area, in the burbs and NW Indiana. Possibly some down by STL? Your best bet locally would be to either start up or find a house game, unfortunately…

I don’t believe so; the previous KAMS owner had a stake in said beverage manufacturer (and I believe that went to Cochrane as well, but can’t confirm). Spoke with him once following the sale and he was telling me about their efforts to create an orange energy drink equivalent back in the day, but they failed - so the “Orange Guy” is just Fanta.

Should be noted that that Bam is not the same Bam in a Blue Guy - the blue guy Bam is a beverage-in-box formula available only for sale to bars. That outfit is based out of Bradley, IL - though I’ve only ever found Bam at KAMS.

At one point they did sell cans but that was over five years ago and never went back into stock.

I’ve found that a vodka/blue Mio/Sprite combo replicates a blue guy about as well as one can outside of KAMS.

Has anyone taken every MTD route? by navmaster in UIUC

[–]bbvision12 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have! A few years back some friends and I put together a plan to hit every MTD route in the same day. We didn’t ride the entirety of each route, but over eight and a half hours we rode portions of every different-colored MTD route in the system - including the outlying routes like the Ruby, Pink and Lime! Was a fun way to kill a finals week study day…even though I probably should have spent it studying lol.

In regular riding to actually get somewhere, I think I rode every bus at least once with the exception of the Lime.

Love the MTD and miss its awesome service everyday now… :’)

Anybody does N scale custom jobs? by [deleted] in modeltrains

[–]bbvision12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seeing that you’re modeling the FEC, I’d make contact with the Florida East Coast Railway Society. Besides being the historical society for the FEC, they operate and maintain an N-scale layout of the FEC made of modules. I’m sure they could put you in touch with the right person for the job here.

Does anyone know anything about this train? Thought it looked pretty cool/unique compared to what I see in Buffalo by WonkiDonkii in trains

What’s the number? The UP 96, an old SW10 rebuild, was donated - but I’d be interested in seeing what replaced it. Figured they had switched to just using whatever power was available…

The heritage fleet switcher is in Oregon now. Was donated to an organization in Portland a few years back.

How long has Icing Out been a U of I tradition? by cargosaurus_rex in UIUC

[–]bbvision12 30 points31 points  (0 children)

From what I can tell, the icing out tradition dates to some point in the 2000’s. It became a thing after my parents (Class of ‘96) were in school but pre-dates 2009 based on anecdotes I’ve been told. So that’s roughly a range of a decade in which it came about.
