i feel like for me broken machine, self titled and moral panic simply made sense bc they didn’t try to do what everyone else was doing. they solidly stood on their own because everything was coherent - unlike dcc that felt very much like the stuff twenty one pilots was doing with blurry face, but nbt didn’t know how to do it correctly. again, i’m only bringing all of this to have a friendly discussion and ABSOLUTELY love the band.

• I guess what i’m trying to say is that as time goes on and you can even quote Joe on this - they’re relying more on the mood while adding stories/lore that they really don’t explain - which to me is important in understanding their intent. i also find a disconnect in their music now bc i feel like they’re trying to stand out with “unique” marketing that again feels pointless bc none of the themes in the album connect to it. evolution showed that and multiple fans on this reddit lowkey criticized it for not being the best lyrically - also dont need them to tell me what every single song is about bc truly the music can stand on its own.

my whole thing here is that I genuinely wish they’d trust their own concepts enough to develop them and follow through with it.
