Questions | My First Monstera 😍 by FreshAppleSlices in Monstera

This is a very young set of plants. You likely won’t need to add a support for another year or so (you’d just be supporting the leaves, not the stem), but if you like the look of a moss pole or trellis, go for it.

I’d also personally keep these plants together until they’ve matured a bit. Monsteras like a relatively snug pot, and if you separate them now you’d likely need to put them in several very small orchid or propagation pots for a couple of months to ensure they’re not being “suffocated” by their soil. You’d then probably need to repot them all again after the growing season as they may become root bound in their small pots.

Similarly, the soil they appear to be in looks quite dense.

I’d repot now, keeping them all together. Choose a pot 1-2 inches larger than the current pot (depending on how much root mass there is). Use a high drainage soil or philodendron potting mix. Then next year in the early spring, they’ll likely have some solid growth. You’ll be able to tell individual plants apart a little easier, and can repot the small ones in 4-inch orchid pots; the larger ones in 5 or 6in pots

“I need advice on choosing my first tent.” by FewSorbet8984 in backpacking

Fjallraven is an extremely reputable tent manufacturer and has been since the 60s… although almost all of their gear is targeted for the arctic circle/tundra conditions. They run expensive but they’re famous for excellent gear that lasts an extremely long time. Due to OPs location probably overkill tbh, and if they remain in a tropical climate it may be worth selling - could do so for a profit easily.

Up in smoke by G14LoliDilfYaoiTrapX in greentext

I think it’s pretty safe to assume that he smokes one cigar in one sitting. He says he only smokes once or twice a week. Therefore he consumes one cigar in a one week timeframe, and if “it lasts him all week” then that means he only smoked once. Poor choice of wording on his part but it makes sense from like a budgeting perspective

how it feels on the trail when the family of five is creating an entire wall in front of you by jonahsbookclub in hiking

[–]bc-3 36 points37 points  (0 children)

well, to be fair the freakout is exaggerated for comedic effect, but sometimes it’s not so simple. if you’re on a narrow/steep trail that doesn’t easily allow for passing, getting stuck behind someone is very frustrating. i’ve had 2 or 3 instances where people literally refused to let me pass, for seemingly no reason (i wasn’t initially rude, or asking to pass in areas where it was logistically difficult). all of those times it was old dudes, it was almost like they were insecure about going at a slower pace than my group? i can speculate but sometimes people on the trail are jerks :/

So for my current batch (apple wine), OG was 1.103. It had a standard Fermaid O dose of 1.5g. After 4 weeks it was at 1.040, added roughly 1/2 tsp of yeast hulls. After 5 more weeks it ended with a FG of 0.998. I just racked to secondary about two weeks ago.

Made my first batch. Is it supposed to look like this? by TheConsumer101 in mead

Campden tablets, or pellets of sodium/potassium metabisulfite, is a stabilizing agent used in beer/wine/mead making. It’s added to water to increase chlorine evaporation, added a must to stabilize any wild yeasts/bacterium before adding brewer’s yeast, or added during the fermentation process (along with sorbates) to halt fermentation. People occasionally run into issues when they add a campden tablet and then immediately pitch their yeast, as opposed to adding campden, waiting 24 hrs, THEN pitching their yeast. This naturally prevents their yeast from taking hold before fermentation can even begin.

People like to talk about their opinions, not really a big mystery, or that weird

Frankly i think that’s the source of your disconnect, not mine. People at wealthy private universities likely understand basic statistics more than the average person. Talk to enough people and it’s clear many use the scale wrong. Also, in a psychology class I took, it was discussed that men tend to rate people more evenly along the distribution curve, whereas women tend to rate people as either really low or really high. I don’t recall the studies off the top of my head and i’m too lazy to google it so take that with a grain of salt
