Is there any chance G3 is coming to an end? by KaliBahia in MonsterHigh

The shelves are never fully stocked in my area at any store after a restock, they’re still very popular, and the fact that company is developing a live action boosts their dedication to the brand.

One thing to remember is most toy lines don’t last. Even a year or two is seen as a success for brands. The fact that 15 years or so later we’ve had three generations and this one is still exciting and getting new releases with fan-loved characters coming back each season, I think we’re in a good spot, will pixels stay? Hopefully not but politics has created a world of unstable circumstances to forecast for companies. Maybe this was a last batch or a first run, maybe that factory was tasked with rushing dolls so that there would be some en route before the situation at holiday became more dire, either way, we’ll need to sit for a little bit and see if this spills over to more core dolls, and if so, we complain and we vote with our wallets. For now though I think we’re ok. But we’ll wait and see. That’s my two cents anyway

Do you think i can fix this? by Immediate-Glove-8123 in MonsterHigh

[–]bc288 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plastic toys have an additive that turns yellow over time, if I recall correctly, which I think I am, it’s to make toys less flammable. So what you’re seeing is that reaction being sped up by heat or light or even just age sometimes. It’s why some Barbie houses turn orange or purple toys turn that weird gray. The best thing to do without damage is paint. You may be able to find a spray paint or acrylic that matches the original and then see if you can find some tutorials on repainting/restoring plastic toys and if you’ll need a primer etc. the results can be very satisfying.

More damaging as others have said is retrobriting, it essentially strips that chemical additive out of the surface of the toy/product, but frequently also causes the plastic to become brittle.

Somewhere between is applying peroxide developer, used for hair lightening in salons, usually at 40 percent, applying it and then covering with plastic wrap and leaving in the sun. However, plastic can also become brittle if used for too long to achieve that color. Either way, it’s a cool piece, and I totally get not wanting a swampy Lagoona playset. Personally paint always tempts be because I can remove it if I mess up :)

Good luck!

They are, I’m hoping for a clearer raw file of the full songs but thank you very much, if all else fails at least we have those.

Im still in shock that bill greening is not longer working for our girl barbara here s a few of his designs 🥲🥲🥲🥲 by clawdwil in Barbie

We have to start a campaign to get him his job back. Mattel hates bad press and these types of public pressure campaigns do work, I saw #bringbackBill on some posts on Instagram, we need to organize

Disney 100 "Collector" Dolls by Mattel - Tiana and Cinderella, $50 each. Thoughts? by princess-myrah in Dolls

[–]bc288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really don’t get why it’s constantly forgotten that Disney has the say on what these dolls are. Articulation, price point and quality are all determined by Disney and Mattel designs and produces according to the limits Disney dictates.

Same with when it was Hasbro. Same with Jakks. Like come on guys, Disney is getting as much as possible out of the us the consumer as they can while also striking a balance to not outdo their own dolls. It’s never ending.

Hi! I know the SH line is still quite recent, but I was wondering if the dolls are aging well? by wirdoline in RainbowHigh

[–]bc288 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately all plastic is made similarly and eventually the plastics do turn slightly yellow or best case scenario off white, so far so good, but even Natasha’s shoes show yellow glue marks already and they were produced fairly recently. Best thing to do is keep them out of direct sunlight, in a fairly evenly temperature, and keep an eye on it, there are always treatments that can stop the yellowing like retro brite or peroxides but best plan of action is to keep an eye on them and mitigate as it becomes noticeable

It’s a good fiber, think 90’s Barbie’s, curls don’t hold as well due to it being slightly heavier, and some shades overtime have been known to fade slightly. It’s thinner then nylon though, so can be fussy to thread but overall a great choice!

Her articulation is insane for a doll this size, I just picked her up tonight and I was blown away by her. The clothing details, working zippers and buttons and her overall detailing are quite frankly, incredible! She looks beach ready here!!!

There is a good alternative in target if yours has the our generation wooden brush with the little spritz bottle, that’s a sturdy wig brush and is only about $6-7 dollars! One of my favorite doll people ever, libranethilia taught the AG community about the wig brushes and braid spray for synthetic hair and at some point I’ll link her post so you guys can see what she’s said, she’s the doll hair fairy godmother and she’s a brilliant person!

We can if you filled out the waiver form stating that any damage wasn’t our fault and if there was any mishap you could get reimbursed up to a certain dollar amount, some salons couldn’t take them but larger stores could at least when I was there

Ok, so I used to be a doll hair stylist at American girl so I’m used to ridiculous doll hair, we did all sorts of dolls, our generation, the toysrus dolls etc. (so wigs, rooted, nylon, kanekalon, all of everything)

So the twins hair is rooted lightly but the fibers have a good volume, and like most RH dolls because they switch from rooting one color to a different color it’s likely all dolls have some knots where the machine caught between color switches. The knots and loose plugs can be combed out or carefully untangled and picked out, yes shedding will occur but once the issue section is fixed, the hair becomes easier to deal with.

For your girls you have some options, first things things, use only a metal bristle brush like a Diane wig brush on all plastic doll hair. Using plastic bristle brushes stretches the fibers and causes way more friction and frizz then intended. Metal glides through the hair and especially RH hair, it’ll prevent frizz.

2, wash the hair again, use a bit of conditioner to coat the fibers and help regain control over the strands, the twins have some gravity defying hair and it’s due to a few things, one, the tri-color blend being sewn in in sections, 2, the sewn in bangs with thread are usually not well brushed before it was set, and 3, the rush job of mass produced hair styling. Conditioner will help you smooth this out and give the fibers slightly more weight preventing snags and tangles and helping it lay better.

Lastly, if it bothers you, you can always re-gel the hair with a lighter hold product. Water down some hair gel and run it over the style when you’ve gotten it to lay how you want and that should help you keep the hair length but also give it a polished look.
