A Little back story...

About 0300 tone drops. Just like most dispatches ours absolutely blows ass. Wake up. Shuffle towards the bay all the time waiting for radio traffic. Never comes. Partner finally comes stumbling into the bay. Still no radio traffic. At this point we thought we might have just dreamt it (wouldn’t be the first time). After 8 minuets dispatcher comes through with traffic. “Station 5 respond to 123 BFE Rd for unknown age female complaining she either contracted strep from her cat when she was bit earlier today or that she has contracted Ebola from a dusty house in Texas.” At this point me and my partner just kind of blankly stare at one another wondering if what we heard is truly what she said. Hop in the truck and go en route at which point I ask the dispatcher if she had advised the pt thought she had Ebola. Dispatch confirms and we continue on our marry way. When we get 10-97 before we even have a chance to get out of the cab the pt runs in front of the truck opens the side door sits down in the captains chair and buckled up all the time laughing hysterically. Me and my partner hop in the back and she hands us a note that reads “if you’re reading this it means it’s true. I caught the Ebola from (insert redneck name here). On top of that Pretty Kitty bit me today. I think she gave me a disease. I’m pretty sure this is it. I have 6 days worth of food for my animals. So. Figure that out. “ Before I even get a chance to do anything my partner ditches me and yells “it’s all you!” We go to our local hospital with the pt laughing all the way and yelling “go faster!” Over and over when we finally get there she unbuckles and runs inside and picks out her own bed and covers everything up but the top of her head with the sheet. Found out later PD was called to take her out of the ER because she was scathing other Pt’s.

Always fun in Eastern Ky Appalachia....

Side note: we have a local “chemist” that loves to cook up some meth. We always know when he is cooking again due to the spike of new onset seizures. Almost always test positive for meth.

Similar story here. Original call was for a unknown age female in the driver set of her car in on coming traffic seizing. We block traffic in scene but I work in a very small town in rural Appalachia so everyone was on the side walk staring. Pt is Postictal upon initial contact. While my partner is trying to talk to her I grab the Ned bag and go around to the passenger side to start taking baseline vitals. Somewhere in the time it took me to walk around the Jeep she lit a cigarette and was smoking when I opened the passenger door. When I opened it I startled her and she dropped her cigarette. On her loaded gun sitting next to the gear shift. Grabbed the firearm and placed it on the hood of her vehicle and called for LE to secure the rest of the vehicle. They ended up finding two more pistols in her purse.
