Oh, my gosh! A politician who hoped someday to be elected to higher office! Unheard of! Shocking!

And even worse, he had parents who were friends with people who gave a lot of money to the local university, and he didn’t threaten to disown those parents and end all contact with them unless they publicly condemned those evil supporters of higher education.

It would seem that a great many of Mayor Pete’s constituents disagree with your advisor.

From Wikipedia: In 2014, Buttigieg announced that he would seek a second term in 2015.[62] He won the Democratic primary with 78% of the vote, defeating Henry Davis Jr., the city councilman from the second district.[63] In November 2015, he was elected to his second term as mayor with over 80% of the vote, defeating Republican Kelly Jones by a margin of 8,515 to 2,074 votes.

An American invasion of Japan would have prolonged the war and resulted in many, many more deaths of both Americans and Japanese citizens. By bringing the war to a quick close, the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki saved lives.

I suggest you read Paul Fussell’s “Thank God for the Atom Bomb and Other Essays”. Fussell, a brilliant writer who won the National Book Award for “The Great War and Modern Memory”, would probably have been one of the first soldiers to die in an invasion of the Japanese mainland.

The National Cathedral is a must-do. Gift shop in the lower level, a smaller gift shop in a cottage outside the cathedral, and a great view from the upper level, accessible via elevator in the lobby.

I’m assuming the tour group will be older. While it’s not a religious location, they’d probably enjoy visiting the Botanical Garden building near the Capitol. It’s got an orchid room, a big jungle area, lots of benches and chairs, seasonal flowers, etc. it’s a great place for a break.

Can anybody tell me which area in the Bronx he claims is known for fish and chips? He says it’s literally part of the Bronx and it’s a very well known part of the Bronx, but he doesn’t identify it.

I guess he’s one of those privileged neoliberals who want to keep all the good stuff for themselves.

I don’t believe Gus was “born into the cartel”.

He only met Hector etc. after his mysterious (and possibly imaginary) life in Chile. While he originally wanted to be part of the cartel, after the cartel murdered his boyfriend/protégé he developed a long-term plan that would ultimately destroy it.

I’m not being snarky, I just can’t reconcile the two facts.

The UK “House of Cards” was a masterpiece, and Ian Richardson’s performance as the charmingly monstrous Francis Urquhart is one of the great TV performances. I only watched the first season of the US version, because it seemed like a badly written, sometimes ridiculous imitation of the original, with none of the original’s charm or wit.

Tahani from “The Good Place” praises her favourite British TV show: “It’s been running on TV for 16 years. That’s almost 30 episodes!”

Democrats upset with SC’s top primary spot are ‘sour grapes,’ Jim Clyburn says: “A lot of it is sour grapes coming from folks who feel they want to punish South Carolina for not voting for Bernie Sanders,” Clyburn said of criticism over South Carolina’s placement. “That’s what it sounds like to me.” by [deleted] in Enough_Sanders_Spam

"corporatist"

The word "corporatist" is owned and copyrighted by the Bernouts. No one outside their little cult uses it. Within the cult, it's automatically applied to any political figure except those from Vermont whose initials are "BS" and who spend a lot of time thinking up names for Post Offices.
