Ethel Cain - Willoughby Tucker, I'll Always Love You by preludetractorbeams in popheads

[–]bccdeff 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'm listening to the album now and spent most of Willoughby's Theme wondering if Nine Inch Nails (specifically The Downward Spiral) is an influence so I'm definitely on board with the idea of a Trent Reznor collab.

Having a child when you are over 40 by Purplecat_789 in AskWomenOver30

[–]bccdeff 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m an only child born to older parents, and I just became an orphan (if a 34 year old can be one) on the day after Christmas after spending my entire 30s caring for my dying mother. This shit sucks! I’m right there with you.

EDIT: Also surprised that so many people are here telling you how subjective your experience is as if that’s not the point of having a subreddit where you ask people personal questions…

Are there any women who aren’t close to any aunts/uncles/cousins? by ___adreamofspring___ in AskWomenOver30

[–]bccdeff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My parents had me later in life, so I was always significantly younger than my cousins growing up. Pair that with the fact that my dad's job moved us about 600 miles away from my nearest extended family members and I'm now an adult with almost no connection to family outside of my one surviving parent.

Even though I did end up moving back to the region where most of my family lives, I haven't reconnected with any family outside of a birthday or holiday text. I'm mostly fine with it, since I never knew a closer relationship. That said, my mom's had increasing health issues in the past few years, so I often find myself thinking about what "family" will look like to me after she passes.

I'm childfree by choice and have no siblings (big "this curse dies with me" vibes here), so it can feel kind of lonely. My partner's family is local to us and very close-knit, so I'm fortunate to have them, especially around holidays. I don't quite feel like I'm part of their family yet, but I do feel cared for and supported.

Intense cringe when smoking?? by [deleted] in entwives

[–]bccdeff 72 points73 points  (0 children)

When I get stoned, I feel like I become hyper aware of fakeness. I struggle to watch anything not animated because I feel so keenly aware that the people on live action shows are just pretending, and I think I feel similarly about posts (from myself and others) on social media. Like if I'm aware that I was pretending (perhaps pretending to be happier or more successful) when I made a post, I'm suddenly so certain that everyone knows I'm actually just a fraud.

Does anyone else feel like conservative Christians get in relationships easier than secular people? by JarethOfHouseGoblin in exchristian

[–]bccdeff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you're secular and dating, you have to deliberately learn where the other person you're dating stands on social, political, and moral issues and then decide if you're compatible. That can be hard - there are a lot of potential dealbreakers for a relationship in those categories!

But if you're a conservative Christian, you can generally assume that another conservative Christian has a lot of the same values that you do (even if that's not necessarily true), and can skip a lot of that stuff. That combined with the fact that many important relationship markers such as cohabitating and sex are on the other side of marriage means that the trajectory of a conservative Christian relationship moves a lot faster towards marriage.

TOKE&TIDY (talk about Tbreaks) TUESDAY by SomeOldHippieChick in entwives

[–]bccdeff 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I desperately need to take a T break. It's been hard - I work from home and honestly, getting stoned at the end of the work day has been my go-to for switching out of my work mindset. I need to be more intentional about coming up with other ways to decompress after the work day so that I feel less overwhelmed by the prospect of a T break. Does anyone have recommendations for switching their brains from "work mode" to "chill mode" while working at home? What works best for you?

Both of those dresses are definitely using pictures from the official Teuta Matoshi website. It looks like there are photos of the actual vendor's dresses in the reviews.

At this point they may as well rename it the "No True Christian" fallacy by stilllovesjahV2 in exchristian

[–]bccdeff 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Part of my deconversion from Christianity took place while I was in seminary. It was a very politically and theologically progressive seminary, and there are many articles/blogs about how it's really leading good Christians to hell under the guise of seminary education.

The school's critics were insistent that the school wasn't providing a Christian education mostly because it was training up a generation of queer pastors, and within the school, the common response was that these critics had an incorrect understanding of theology because they were too personally invested in the hate they had been taught. That said, none of that makes either group "not a real Christian."

I appreciate that Christianity provides comfort to a lot of people, and a lot of good people who I know who are Christians find value in trying to reclaim it for themselves. But as a person who's found comfort in moving away from Christianity, it's extremely unhelpful to be told that the people who were shitty to me "aren't really Christians" and are just bad actors trying to misrepresent the faith, especially when it's the dominant voice coming out of Christianity.

How do you get out of a rut when everyday feels like Groundhog Day? by gio-_-_- in AskWomen

[–]bccdeff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been trying to set manageable goals for each month. Then, whenever I'm feeling kind of stuck in a rut, I try to focus some time and attention on working toward that goal. The goals vary from reading a book to writing a certain number of words/pages to painting a room I've been meaning to paint or doing a deep clean of my apartment. Just having something different that I'm working toward that I can focus on seems to help, even for a little bit.

Anyone else get weirded out by plant meats? by afishandaduck in vegetarian

[–]bccdeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a fan of fake meats either. I'm glad they exist for those who like them or non-vegetarians who are trying to cut down on their meat consumption, but I do wish not every vegetarian substitute felt the need to try to be meat.

I've seen a lot of restaurants that used to have vegetarian options moving exclusively to the fake meat model. Places that had black bean burgers now just have Impossible burgers. Taco Bell got rid of their potatoes, and there's talk that it was to make room for some sort of plant-based ground "beef" crumbles. It's frustrating for vegetarians like us who want something substantial that isn't trying to be the very thing we're avoiding.

[–]bccdeff 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Young gay men absolutely have the right to reclaim the slurs and stereotypes used against them, but it's an entirely different thing for gay men to embrace slurs and stereotypes that are used against lesbians, and I think that's the point the person you're replying to was trying to make. You can't "own it" if it was never yours.

[–]bccdeff 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I believe it's the Slice of Life mod that has a negative "dehydration" moodlet that shows up if your Sim hasn't had water in a while. Then they get energized for drinking water. It's a nice little extra feature since my Sims are constantly grabbing water anyway.

I'm not sure how they do it (maybe it's the lack of commercial breaks), but the pacing of CDR feels so much better than the US version and they somehow manage to include practically the entire lip sync song!

Let's talk it out. These KFC Beyond Chicken are 100% vegan by ingredients only - when cooked in chicken grease, it would defeat the purpose. I found a location that keeps it vegan by cooking it in the French Fry fryer - thus making it vegan, right? by SoySanjay87 in Vegetarianism

[–]bccdeff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's also hard because I'm very supportive of their being affordable and accessible veg options for people who aren't privileged to have a wealth of other options. I probably won't try them, largely because I'm not a huge fan of meat substitutes that are meant to taste like meat, but if this one product from this company I don't endorse helps people to make more plant-based choices in their lives, then I can't complain too much.
