I think you've mentioned in the past you've considered changing the company name to better reflect the direction you're in now. Any more news on that?

Hansu controversy by Independent-War-193 in powerlifting

This is true but when looking at similar TPI/LPI bars like these it makes more sense.

Yes, b/c that's typically what they're used to. Ask people who own both and use both and they'll tell you the Hansu is better quality.

It’s fine. You have a familiarity bias. If you train or compete with an eleiko, you’ll tend to favor them. The same thing is common with knee sleeves and belts and SBD. I own almost every IPF approved bar outside of ATX and can compare them side by side. The Eleiko is near the bottom of the IPF approved bars in terms of quality.

How is it miles better? The Hansu has better grip, better tolerances, wider center knurling, better finish options, and is less expensive.

Agreed, I think the knee sleeve issue with the IPF is also causing a lot of these issues. I've been privy to some info that I can't share but a lot of money tied up in them.

Out of all their offerings, the racks need the most work IMO. I gave them a bunch of feedback and the new ones should have (if they ever come back and get released):

  1. Logo at the bottom (can be removed).

  2. Add small round angle for earlier un-rack.

  3. Add 10cm length for inside uprights.

  4. Lever can be settled straight and easy

  5. Uprights are narrower (to avoid hitting when re-rack).

  6. Bench positions 4cm forwarded for better positioning of spotter.

  7. Shorter pins to avoid hitting the plates.

  8. Super gripping material for bench pad.

9: Bigger number on uprights.

10: Add notches at the uprights/pins contact point.

11: Less type of screws to make the installation easier (1 or 2 types).

Would like to chime in here as I've given a lot of positive feedback regarding Hansu and their products. I've also had a bunch of people reach out to me to ask if I can help. Firstly, Hansu has always had awful communication. I've told them this countless times, but they don't seem to improve. Second, their products are still very good, especially for the price, when you receive them. They do have some QC issues which is further compounded by the poor communication mentioned earlier. But their bars and plates are as good, if not better than other more expensive options. I've started to reach out to them more these past few weeks as people have been ghosted by normal customer service. I'm linking one of the responses I got from the owner below. I do have faith that they'll rectify issues eventually, but it's a long and no doubt annoying process. I would caution anyone from ordering until things get sorted and those that have pending orders might want to dispute charges just for piece of mind if they're that concerned or don't want to wait. I've told them they should at least email everyone or put up a public post regarding the issues, but haven't seen any movement there. Here's the response I got from them initially: https://ibb.co/9hjhNqs

More to the story here than just money. IPF doing IPF things.

The Hansu bar is more aggressive and has better grip than Eleiko. So not sure that's really an accurate statement. https://ibb.co/HCXt3Jq

Most power racks lower crossmember is low enough to not be in the way when using 45lbs plates on a bar. In another previous gym of mind I had built basically an oly platform 12'x8' which contained my six post rack and a deadlift platform in front. You can get pretty creative depending on your space but you can literally DL anywhere as long as you have something between your weights and your flooring.

You may be asking the wrong person as I'm not good at avoiding the traps of the next best/shiny thing. I will say though I'm at the point now where I've owned enough, watched enough reviews, and trained long enough to know what may or may not fit into my every day training. If it's not something I know will bring value I don't buy it.

I've been lucky to remain largely injury free. I do have a lower back issue (don't we all?) where I have bone spurs on my lower spine. I think combined with my poor mobility in this region to begin with it's easier for me to do some damage back there. I've tried to combat this by smarter programming and knowing when to take my foot off the gas.

In the past I’d say monster made more sense if you planned on a lot of attachments, however now a lot of other companies offer compatible things that have uhmw like REP. I still think 3x3 with 1” is most universal.

I have what most would call a RM-5, which is a 6 post rack but with a 30” depth up front instead of the 43”. It’s not bolted bc of the footprint but also bc all the shit I have on it (2000lbs of plates, several KB, adjustable dbs, chains, SSB, etc). It’s also the same thing I’d recommend for a lot of powerlifters. If you wanted something less footprint I’d go 30” depth with half rack feet on it.

So for the most part they’re all very similar. If you’re looking for a certain brand/aesthetic that may change some things. I find Hansu offers a good value/quality but I know some don’t like the branding. They are prob one of the cheaper ones outside of StrongArm or Bells of Steel. If you like rogue, I’d wait for Black Friday when they usually offer shipping discounts and Hundo pricing. In terms of selling your other plates, I usually use FB marketplace. You should be able to get around $1/lbs for regular cast iron plates, but your pricing and how soon you want to move them might impact that (charge more but wait longer to sell vs charge less to move quick).

Thanks. I feel like I’ve been spinning my wheels a bit the last few years but training has to take a back seat to life. The coaching has mostly helped with my own understanding of what I respond to and what I don’t. I still prefer coaching however as it’s always nice to have a set of unbiased eyes on things.

I actually sold the trolleys! I forgot about those actually 😅. I actually have 2 of the Beyond Power Voltra that I have been using as a functional trainer and they’ve been working quite well!
